Hello Folks

This my entry to the next GB on ISM. This time I have plan to do IL-2 Sturmovik from Tamiya in 1/48 scale.
For this build I will be using after market decals from Kagero publishing with Polish markings.
The after market resin wheels and rear gunner cannon from Eduard will be also used.
As usually box art and the sprue layout.

This is the magazine from Kagero. I will be doing IL-2 in the markings second from the top

This it for now. Tomorrow I will try to add some information on IL-2 in Polish Army.
Cheers

Hello Folks

My first update for IL-2 build. I started working on the kit as usually from the cockpit. First I paint all parts for the cockpit and both fuselage half's using Tamiya XF-22 RLM Grey per instructions. Next I pick up all the details in the instrument panels and for all interior parts using variety of colours such like black silver, brown etc. Next I protect the paint using gloss coat and after it dries I put wash Dark Brown from MIG production. After it dries a little bit I started wiping the excess using cotton buds. And this is the result:

I also do the same for internal air duct. For the instrument panel I used decals from the kit. I have plan to add some PE seat belts from Eduard.

The same time when I was spraying the interior cockpit parts I spray also the wheel bays. I will show them in the next episode.
That's it for now. Stay tuned.
Cheers

Hello Again

As Paul said this kit comes together like a dream. I've managed to finish the cockpit and glue fuselage together. I also assembly radiator in the center of the wing and also I completed the wheel bays by dry brush them and weathered them using oil paints.

That's it for now tomorrow next update.

Hello All

Next day and the Il-2 completed. The fit of this kit is so excellent that one day is enough to complete the build. No filler required.
Some pictures of the completed assembly:

Quick and neat work mate!

pay attention with the pitot tube when you manipulate your plane it would have been easier to put it at the end for being sure not to break it.

See u

Hello

Thanks for nice comments. The secret for the nice photos is first of all good strong lightning if it possible from two different direction. Then second thing is to take pictures using manual set up for your camera. It takes some practice to found witch set up is best for your camera and your source of light. I also manually re-size my photos in the GIMP program before putting on photbucket account. I think that's it.
Hope this will help you.
Cheers

Hello Folks

Quick update on my site after a while. I'm come back to the Iliuszyn. I mask the canopy using kit masks from Tamiya then sprey interior color XF-22.
I sand and re scribe all panel lines that need to. Mask gunner position and wheel bays and the bird is ready to priming.

Tomorrow start spraying so stay tuned. :)

Hello Again

Painting stage started, first underside for this I use my own custom mix for АМТ-7 Underside Light blue that I found in the net XF-23(85%)+ X-2(10%)+ X-4(5%), then follow with bleaching using the same AMT-7 but with more XF-23 and XF-2 in it. After that I masked the demarcation line between top and bottom colors using warms from white tack and Tamiya tape. Today I managed to put first top color АМТ-4 Dark Green again mix of 90% XF-5 Flat Green + 10% XF-1 Flat Black. Then I bleach this color by adding Tamiya Grey Green to the AMT-4. And these are the results:)

Next episode tomorrow I need to buy in my local hobby shop Tamiya XF-68 NATO Brown.

Looking good Wally, great plane the Sturmovik. By the way XF69 is NATO black not brown, just making sure you get the colour you need!

Hello
Painting stage finished  . Last two colors of camouflage are XF-68 Nato Brown and XF-24 Dark Grey. I only need to do some minor touch ups and spray yellow band on the tail and then gloss coat and decals. I need to buy polish national insignia for this.

Hello

Progress - Almost finished  Decals completed so I start weathering process. First the prop and the wheels were weathered using Tamiya pastels like mud, light earth and some silver chipping on the propeller blades leading edges. I also weathered the bombs and rockets using the same technique.

Next step will be the panel line was and the chipping and scuffing the aircraft itself.
