Some time tomorrow my hope is to pop this box open again and try to build this monster.

I originally started it sometime last year I think but shelved it because of lack of time and work space. At the time I also started a 1/16th tiger, and a1/72 flower class corvette. So my plate was a little full.

My plan now is to build a series of Star Wars pieces over the summer, coincidentally this sig and the sig being hosted on the modelling misfits magazine paralleled each other.
Two birds one stone.

To compliment this build I hope to also build a 1/72 speeder, and x-wing, and a tie fighter.
As well ass a pair of AT STs, an AT AT, and maybe a tydirum shuttle. Time may not allow all of these, but I'd like to clear these kits from my stash and either get them on my shelves or give them away.

Until tomorrow I'm watching clone wars and building a mosquito...

The last few days all that I've been working on is the Falcon and watching Star Wars movies and TV.
All in all... a good few days.

The Falcon is a greeble fest!!! Holy tiny fiddly bits. And each one needs a little clean up. This is a make work project for sure. A lot of these parts didn't have to be separate parts. They could have easily moulded many of them on.
It certainly adds to the encumbrance of the build.
Still, the details are exceptional and I can see so many tank parts on this thing it's ridiculous. Many 1/35 scale panthers and Matilidas met their end on the hull of the Millennium Falcon.

I have the paragraphics PE set for the kit as well, but I didn't get it until after I had built the cockpit. I regret it now as it's superb and it would have made a big difference. The rest of the set is for the externals and it isn't that much. The grills for the round vents on the rear of the ship are a really nice touch, but delicate as hell.

Wow! That is a lot of small parts, nice work. I really want to get started on mine but I need to get some other projects off the bench first.

She's all built now and I primed it yesterday. Now I just need to wait for paint. It will be a while though as my post office has gone insane and I can't risk having anything delivered until sometime in July.
So I'm screwed for a few projects now.
The moose jaw, the falcon, the ATST, and the Pegasus all need paint that I don't have in stock.
It's pretty frustrating being at the whim of foolish people but I can't fix it. BLAH!!!

Hey Mike, looks like you won against the Greebles! Great work!

Foxx, aka modelmakingguru, who is also a member of this forum, has done quite a bit of painting and weathering on sci-fi models. I'm including the video, not for the technique but for ideas for weathering for you. 502 Abteilung Starship Filth and Engine Grease are favorite oil paints for weathering.

The same thing that's wrong with many half government run institutions in Canada. The wrong people asking the right questions of the wrong poeple.
None of those people are listening to the right people or the people that they represent.
Over paid and over entitled unions, and a population completely uninterested in change but always whining about the state of things.

They closed the local post office outlet because it's contract ran out, but the winner of the new contract is a local drug store that hasn't even finished building the store yet.
So all packages requiring I'd or a signature are diverted to a post office 40 minutes in the opposite direction that everyone here ever travels. It's out in the middle of no where. Right next to where the f¥@k am I?

So I got bored of waiting for my paint to arrive and I went ahead with what I had.
What I have isn't so great.
I have a single bottle of Vallejo air white (a semi glossish texture)... Which will do my head in tying to spray because it clogs the brush so badly.
I have a single bottle of Mig's AMMO white (also a semi gloss), which is happens to be cooked by frost during shipping and separates all to hell and gone unless thinned just so with Mr Thinner. (And even then who knows)
And a single bottle of model master acryl flat white, which isn't much better than the Vallejo.
It's makes no difference if they're flat or semi gloss, or gloss paints as I will be flat coating it anyway. So it comes down to which one will annoy me the least.

This ended up being an interesting test as to which of these three covered the best for a white paint... Not a good test, but interesting. I say that because two are semi gloss and one is a flat paint. These cover differently when thinned so it's not the most exacting of tests.

It ended up that the model master was the one that offered the better and denser coverage.
It's also the one that I ended up using the most.

I primed the falcon a couple of weeks ago with badger primer and she's been sitting ever since. So I'm pretty sure she's cured before I hit it with the white.

I know that there's folks that will say that it's not the right colour or she's actually supposed to be a grey colour and that it's the studio lights make her look so bright.
I don't care.
In the film and the photos of the studio model I see a whole range of colours that are diametrically opposed to each other. So I'm not interested in all the arguments about it.
They're all just crap to me.
I'm going to try to paint mine as if she is an old light grey ship that's being lit by the intensly bright light of a star. So she'll be really stark as well as beat up.

This is her with the black primer and a semi-translucent coat of white (all three of the above listed paints were used on this)

That's just the top done, I still need to paint the underside yet.

After you work your weathering magic she will be superb
I agree with colour descriptions are all over the map on Star Wars ships
I am using the excuse of not having the right paint to delay my spraying 'cause really I am too lazy to mix flat white and black...and fight the mixture.

Working on a trip across the border for "kid's school clothes"....but really to go to the hobby stores and buy some of that Valejo stuff we talked about. Damn loonie needs to gain some altitude first though

I thought aircraft were bad for decals, this was nuts.
The decals are the wrong colours, they're thick, and they're brittle.
They certainly made me work for it. I'll have to paint the tan coloured plates the proper bluish grey colour later.

I still have to do the bottom yet. Then I'll fix those tan plates

The paint job is working for me! Any weathering would make a darker grey too dark; this should work out super!

This reminds me how much I love the Falcon as a ship design.

The decals are all on and the tan ones are all repainted in a light blue grey, and the detail painting is finished.
Next I will add a few small touches with the airbrush of a few greebles that were painted a weird blue colour on the studio model (the one that I'm using as reference).
Then it's the washes.

I had a bit of time to spend on the washes for the ol'girl this morning. So Ultimate Dark Dirt to the rescue!!!

All that I have to do now is some individual panel washes with some oils, rust streaks and score marks, and a little more detail painting.

This is one good looking build
I think it is a nice addition when you have the pictures from the movie model
i have 2 books about Star Wars but they are a detail and artwork on Episode 1
Maybe i should have a look for a Naboo fighter or something like that
I have some cut away reference for those ships
