Getting back into it

Right I haven't done any modelling since around 2000 and dont really have that much gear left. What I am wondering is this, what would be considered a basic starters kit in terms of tools, glues, brushes etc?
I am planning on doing mainly 1/35 scale armour models, OOB to begin with and then with after market later on once I am back in the swing of things. I used to use the Revel glue in the blue bottle with a needle applicator, contacta I think it was called and tamiya files, clippers, blades etc.

I still have an Aztec A470 deluxe airbrush, but no compressor, is this still a decent airbrush to use and if so what sort of compressors are good value to use with it ?

I can't help you with the airbrush as I still use my Revell starter one from years ago, from what I have heard the Evolution with the 0.2mm is the way to go or at least that is what I plan to upgrade to.

A decent set of clippers is a must, Tamiya should still be fine as they are all basically the same. The files I use are flex-i-files and i find they are great. I still use the Revell contacta glue but no doubt others on here will say that other glues are far better.

Yeah start simple mate, then you will naturally start to find what you do and don't need for your own work.

So get a decent craft knife, sometimes having a bigger and smaller one can be useful (think the sets you can get in B&Q, Homebase etc), clippers, thin nose wire cutters, or dedicated modelling sprue cutters, choice is yours!. Glue - either go with what you used before so Humbrol or Revell with the needles, or try something like Mr Hobby extra thin, comes with a brush and its so thin that capillary action between parts will glue them. Files - as DC87 said, the flex-i-files are supposed to be good, but you can't go wrong with some fine grit nail files! And filler, Games Workshop do liquid greenstuff, which is ok, though not too cheap, Vallejo putty is ok, and there are many more.

I would start with that, you will soon find out things you might also need.

I've got an Aztec that I don't use as often as I should. It's still a good brush and should keep ya going till you have done your research on a suitable replacement. Any compressor wil do to start with but I'd highly recommend one with a tank and water traps are a must.
The contacta glue is still my goto glue for most things, but checkout some reviews On the thin glues as they are really good as well.
Sandpaper, files, knives, cutters etc from your local hardware store are perfectly usable tools.
