Romeo Models "Lars Porsenna, Etruscan King of Clusium" 54mm

The white metal kit from Romeo Models has some nice details and i enjoyed it a lot to paint the face and armour of the king.
I used acrylic paints from Revell and Lifecolor to paint this miniature. For the bronze armour i used Revell enamel paints.

Around the end of the VI Century B.C. the Tarquinians were expelled from Rome. The one named the Superb (VII and last king of Rome), in order to regain the throne, asked the help of the Etruscan Dodecapolis, which was a Confederation of twelfe towns of Etruria, the most important culture at that time on the Italian peninsula.
Lars Porsenna, the King of Clusium, was nominated as the Commanding Officer of the army.
Around the year 508 Porsenna leid siege to Rome and his name became legendary, along with the names of his famous Roman enemies Publius Horatius Coclite and Gaius Mucius Scaevola. It seems like Porsenna was able to capture Rome, but the reign of the Tarquinians was not re-erected. According to Roman historians the Romans had to send hostages to the Etruscans and archaeology prooves that the importance of Rome was reduced. This delayed the rise of Rome in the Italian peninsula.
Porsenna was defeated in Ariccia by the Latin League in the year 505.

The figurine is based on archaeological finds exhibited in the museums of Athens, Rome, London and New York. The Etruscans had copied from the Greeks the hoplite phalanx and the related panoply, which resulted in similar decorative details.
The two-edged axe was not only a weapon but also the symbol of Command. The cuirass is a model of the so called bell type, it is an evolution of the archaic type and precedes the muscular type. The helmet is also an archaic model and precedes the more famous Corinthian model.

The figure is based on this painting, you can see the king standing on a chariot on the right in the battle formation.

Thank you! The Etruscans are a rather unkown people but influenced the Romans a lot (and therefore our era aswell) so it is a quite fascinating subject.
