Trumpeter 1/16 KingTiger Henschel Turret

Post by andreb87 »

Hey guys i guess you think jesus christ andre simply finish something before you start something new and of course you are right but this thing was so sexy i couldnt resist i had to buy it!

thats the kit !the box is so huge i added a samsung galaxy s2 cover and a 1/35 t90 so you can get an idea of the size

Image

Image

the turret is as big as the t90 -.-

Image

well i started with the hull interior

Image

Image

the poor radio operator had to escape through this replicating small escape hatch if the upper hatch was jammed... poor guy

Image

Image

Image

a quick test how the parts fit

Image

i decided to show the complete interior. the kit isnt designed that way so i had to do something brutal ...

Image

i had to cut out the roof of the upper hull and the turret so that i can remove them at every time so i can show the interior. i used a dremel for that.
the problem is that you loose about 1mm of plastic at each side because of the cutting. i now have to sand everything and add plastic card to get the old fitting otherwise it wont fit. that will take hours ... :( but hey it is necessary if you want to show the full interior. i ordered a lot of aftermarket parts for the interior and the exterior but they havent arrived yet.

Image

painting all the interior will be a lot of work. so many decals to apply and i have to paint all the big parts seperately if i want it to be accurate and nice. there are 80 rounds and every round has 3 decals and has to be handpainted -.- hurray :D i will keep you updated but i guess this one will take at least a year to get finished! :cheers2:
on the bench: too much -.-

A real big beast in the making
I think the size of such a kit would scare most modellers so i think it is good that dime one on ISM is building one of these
I have a Tiger 1 (HB) and a T-34/85 (trumpeter) in this scale
And after looking through the box i must say i am inpressed with the quality of these big trumpy kits
This King Tiger is defently on my wish list although i want to build the Porsche turret wich is the best looking tank of the entire war in my opinion
Good luck with this giant build Andre
Cheers

thanks a lot guys! you are totally right the size is very impressive and scares a lot of modellers but i have to say i like the trumpeter 1/16 models a lot. easy to build, good detail and they are cheap considering how much plastic you get for your money. i share your opinion on the porsche tiger 2! it is sexier than the henschel version but i decided for the henschel version because zimmerit was available for this version at my shop and the turret roof is easier to cut off because the porsche turret is rounder than the henschel turret! i'm currently working on the gearbox it is as big as a 1/35 kübelwagen :D

If I had the room!!!!
That is a hell of a thing bud.
I know that Paul has been shopping around for the Tamiya RC one, but I'd take either version of the Trumpy any day... Look at all those goodies.
I'm more partial to the early turret myself.

damn it all the talking about the porsche turret makes me wanting to build it :D :D :D i still have the option the kit has both turrets in it =) i will change turrets and look which one looks more epic. rc tanks are awesome but i wanted to do a 1/16 full interior so i decided for the trumpy kit! got it damn cheap for 160 euros! normally it costs 225 - 250 euros! i still wanted a high quality rc tank so i got one too ... but dont tell the wife ... next to the trumpy king tiger box stands another 1/16 box  a tamiya 1/16 full option leopard 2a6 with metal hull add on part and an electronic gun stabilisation. the leopard 2 with all the things you need like a remote control etc is damn expensive i paid 1100 euro for all leopard stuff so my modelling budget for this year is gone and my birthday and christmas present :P i know that is a huge amount of money for a kit but as you know i was in afghanistan last year and got a lot of money for that and i looked forward to this kit when i was there as a reward for selling months of my life :D these 2 will finish my trip to the 1/16 world because i simply dont have the room for more than 2 of these beasts and god damn it the boxes are too large :D :thumb2:

Thanks! no the interior parts are not glued in. i can remove them for easier painting. you are totally right you have to plan your painting steps with such an interior! :)

Looks friggin awesome mate. Love the way you are going to display it. Its always been my reservation about kits like these - so much detail that never gets seen on completion. Cannot wait for more updates, excellent work so far.
Its been tried and tested, it works! So don't blame the system if you're no good.
