Found this For $30 and just had to join this build!
It came with some resin parts, and I added the resin napalm tanks.











This is the cockpit fully test fitted. The tub the kit comes with is a bit blank, so I'm going to have to scratch build some in.



I painted the blank Instrument panel in Tamiya XF-1 Flat black, then I used super glue to put the 2 part PE instrument panel together. The PE parts had a slight satin finish to them, so I want over it in Alclad 2 Flat clear coat, and then used a brush to pop in a bit of gloss to each of the dials. This was the end result.



I still need to paint the foot pedals interior green (Ill have to buy the color) , and pick out some detail on the gun sight and put the clear part in, but other than that the instrument panel is done. The rest of the cockpit isnt painted yet, I still need to add the extra detail, and paint it, but its getting along.

First ever GB BTW

Before I get too far into the build I want to give some basic info on the F-80.

The F-80 started its existence as the P-80 in late 1944. It was the first operational jet fighter in the USAAF, as well as the first fighter jet with a fusalage mounted engine.
The shooting star was mostly used in the Korean war as an air to air and air to ground attack sortie. However, after the Introduction of the F86 Sabre, it was rendered almost obselete in the air superiority role and flew air to ground missions exclusively from then on. It's service lasted from late 1944 and was retired in 1953.

Now that the history lesson is finished (I hope none of you fell asleep) quick update on my schedule. I won't be able to update this build for at least the next 3-4 weeks due to the fact that I am going to Chang Mai Thailand for vacation

I should be able to finish this build on time though!

I'm back and modeling again!
The model's coming along nicely. I got the cockpit finished and am putting the fusalage halves together.










This is the cockpit tub painted and weathered. I used Tamiya XF-67 for the green and XF-1 for the control panels. I weathered the cockpit by spraying heavily thinned XF-1 (around 95% thinner) into it.

got another update on this build. ive been focusing on this model, so lots of progress.





The kit didnt come with an engine or any detail in that area. I took it upon myself to put a scratch built engine with the materials I have. I used an old and empty Humbrol paint tin, and glued an extra BF-109-E spinner to the lid of the paint. I sprayed the inside of the aircraft and the scratch built engine with Alclad II steel. I popped the cockpit and the front landing gear bay into place with some fishing weights in the front to keep it on the deck.



All glued up.





I glued the wing tops and the resin pylons on and thought the landing gear bays were a bit sparse. i spruced them up with a bit of copper wire.



















Oh deary, deary me. looks like ive got a lot of filling and sanding to do . seam lines galore. other than that, builds coming along nicely.

i am glad to anounce, i am still sane and continueing to fill the gaps.

this build is somehow relaxing. working this rock hard plastic is the best time ive had building a model in a long time.

Thanks for the compliments mate! How's the zvezda bf109? I love 109s and have built two 1/32 trumpeter bf109s. Just wondering what you get in the kit and how the detail and build is.

Thanks for the link.....holly crap that is a beautiful 109! am goin to buy at least 3 of those kits for when i hyper focus on 109s. I want to build one in the same colour scheme, so what decal set did you get?

Finally got around to finishing this model, had to take a small break from it...as you can see in the pictures it was a lot of work.

but, its paid off! Ive gotten it primed, and painted now! the Decals look nice, EXTREMELY glossy and printed by cartocraph, we'll see how well they
hold up being 20 or so years old! their older than i am.....wow. (im 15 BTW)



It's primed in Alclad II Gloss black primer in this picture. High shine finishes go down better on glossy surfaces.





I sprayed the inside of the landing gear bay covers and the landing gear bay in Interior green.



I sprayed the entire thing in Alclad II Polished aluminium and for an effect that is not really visible to the camera, post shaded the panel lines in Alclad II
Aluminium. The final effect provides just enough tonal difference to make the lines pop. as I said tho, its sadly not visible to the camera.





I mixed the blue shade with just some Mr. color gloss blue and white to get that colour. its slightly lighter than the decal that goes with it, but you have to look closely to notice the difference. after a lot of masking i was finally able to put the blue down, and the flat black wing steps and nose. the vertical stabilizer has a small notch of flat black and light grey in it as well. it needs a little bit of a touch-up but thats no problem. In those two pictures the entire aircraft is gloss coated and the canopy is attached and un-masked. The masking didnt turn out too well as you can see, a little paint must have bled through the tape....sigh... al well, ill just weather the aircraft a lot to match up with it and say it was just in combat and shot down a mig 15 and the oil spilled over the F80C, and i will make you believe it!

Its been a long time in the making, but we finally got there. their were some hicups along the way, but we got threw them. one thing thats a bit of a bummer to me is the decals on the tail fell apart in the setting solution, but i did leave them in a bit too long.
