Revell Fiat 131 Rallye

Inspired by the thought of a future racing car GB build next and the fact I have not built anything in a couple of years I thought I would do a simple out of the box build, before I tackle any of the P/E and Resin bits in the stash.
so here we are





The workshop has been cleaned up as it has been a bit of a dumping ground over the last couple of years. I hope to make a start tomorrow.

it's exactly that, an 'I' shaped thingy.......it was bought for me by the kids years ago as a present (first name Ian), supposed to be a pencil holder, I use it to store my scalpels out of harms way when not in use.



Doing a paint stocktake as I will be at the model shop tomorrow, however I hope to get the engine put together tonight

Got the engine assembled tonight, I truly hope the rest of the kit is better than it is, the worst fitting plastic I have ever worked with. All clamped up tonight, lets see if we can do something with it in the morning.

Bought some new paints today, as we are a small market town the only paints I could get apart from enamels was the Revell Aqua colour, I bought a couple to try and I have to say diluted with warm distilled water (recommended by the shop owner), they have airbrushed beautifully, been back and bought a load more to stock up





Aluminium & matt black Revell aqua, airbrushed over primer, very pleased with the result

The shell is in primer but will be sprayed with some Merc polar white from a rattle can, left from another project

Body shell with two coats of Merc Polar White, may need one more, not sure, I'm away for the afternoon now so will look at it again this evening and decide.

Yes, this is purely an out of the box build, it is a couple of years since I built anything, so this is to ease me back into it gently. so far so good but the decals might be challenging as they are huge!!.

I think we have all been there at some point or another, but thanks for the tip. I still need to mask it up to do the window rubbers so decaling is some way away yet. I hope to have a running chassis by tomorrow.

Well I am trying to get my mojo back, so I have pulled this one back onto the bench to finish, an out of the box build to get back into it. I hope to finish it by the end of the month and will try another oob build (probably in the Tamyia GB) before tackling some kits with resin & P/E.
Currently working in my desk in the house as my wife is unwell

Thanks Scott, unfortunately Pauline condition is something we have to live with, it is managed, rather than cured. That is why I gave up full time work & travelling with the rally team, but family must come first. When she is particularly bad I decant from the workshop to my computer desk in the house

Interior now done, hopefully this evening will be spent decaling the body, I love the process of decaling, especially racing cars, it seems to bring them to life.
