ISM BoB Hurricane

Hi Guys,

Here is my work in progress for the Battle of Britain 48hr build! I know it's late and it ain't finished yet but that's life :violin:

So here is the customary box shot

Image

followed by the first bit of building, the office chair,

Image

and the the really well produced scaffolding in the cockpit area, I was really surprised Airfix went into this much detail as when the fuselage halves are closed you can't really see it.

Image

next up came the building and painting of the undercarriage wheel wells, again some very nice details

Image

Interior of the office painted in Mr Hobby interior green, don't know if it's 100% correct in terms of colour but I like it.

Image

scaffolding painted

Image

Image

This is my first go at a 1/48 pilot, pre wash

Image

instrument panel in and details painted

Image

wing tops on and pilot Pete in situ

Image

dials and instruments completed, this was a real nightmare as it rolled up on me in the water and formed a cigar! I think the water was too warm and it came straight off the backing but I managed to rescue it. Lots of Microsol got it to conform pretty well

Image

next up came the masking of the canopy and windscreen using Paul's cocktail stick and modelling knife technique, thanks for that, it worked really well, I have both inside and outside as the canopy will be in the open position

Image

undercarriage on

Image

Some fit issues around the wing root and underside but some sanding here and there got it sorted

Image

Pete washed and flat coated, I think the wash was maybe a little to dark but I can make my peace with that

Image

some more fit issues around the tail plane, lots of Mr Surfacer to cure those but I got there in the end

Image

assembled and ready for masking

Image

all masked up and ready for primer

Image

That's where I'm at currently, I'm hoping to get it done by the end of August ready to start on the Modern day desert rats GB

As always thoughts, feedback and constructive criticism greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Chris

Carrying on with the Hurricane, my first go with Badger primer, it looks to have gone down ok. This sounds a bit stupid but it appears to on very wet!

Image

It's dried really well so I've smashed on and done the pre-shading

Image

I also sprayed the prop and nose cone so that is done now awaiting a little chipping

Very nice. What are you going to use for the brown camo? I used dark earth on mine and it came out too dark!

These are the top surface colours

Image

This was the first effort at the underside

Image

I wasn't 100% happy with how prominent the pre-shading was so I wafted a little more sky over it to tone it down, here's the end result

Image

I'm happy with this now so I'm moving onto the top surface

Good stuff :th: I did the same kit for the 48h build and loved it.

I saw your post on the FB page and hope you didn't feel pressured into a change, it does look better though.

I use the same technique with my 1/48 pilots, except that after the wash I come back and drybrush with the base colors to pick out the highlights.

It's a great kit and I want to add some more to my stash, I've gifted my build to a family friend and already want to build another.

Hi Guys,
Yes it's the new tool.

No I didn't feel pressured to change it, I was already thinking it needed toning down a little.

Will post more pics as the painting progresses

It's looking the part buddy. Very tidy build - just wondering what gloss varnish did you use?
Cheers Jim

Hi Jim,

I used Vallejo gloss, I'm trying to use it up before getting something else's. To be honest with you it has dried a little bit rough in places but it should be ok to wash over.

Cheers
Chris

Hi Chris, :th:

Thanks for the info, the finish looks good, but it is easy to get that rough overspray when spraying gloss sometimes.
I use Alclad Aqua Gloss seems ok, but I'm always on the look out to try other alternatives.

:cheers2: Jim
