Hi my name is Edward Troth or Edward28drfc and this is my first post on the forum itself. I am building the brand new 2015 release Tamiya 1:35 sdkfz 234/2 puma with the 5cm KwK l/60 gun. This is currently a Wip and I will be entering the kit into the SiG. It is my first attempt at PE metal and it took me 2 hours to construct the jerry can belts alone but I have to say that I am happy with the result, I will post another update in the coming days.

The model will also feature on a diorama.

The construction is now complete and I shall soon be priming the model.

This is the current state of the model after the primer coat and for this task, I used Tamiya's grey surface primer straight from the can. The hatches and the bottom of the turret ring have been filled with tissue paper.

Here is the model with the wheels painted and the base colour applied. I used Tamiya's xf 60 dark yellow thinned 50/50 with their thinner. The wheels were painted in the tamiya rubber black first and then a circular template was held over the wheel and I then sprayed the dark yellow over the hubs. Note that the wheels have not been attached yet.

At this stage the red brown and dark green colours were applied, I thinned them at a ratio of 2 parts thinner with 1 part paint and the pressure was dialed down to around 7 psi. Only a slight amount of paint was let through my double action airbrush and the needle cap was kept off as I could wipe the needle tip clean every so often to prevent the buildup of dried paint. By doing this, you can prevent dried paint from getting splattered onto the model. The first colour to be sprayed was the green and then the brown was sprayed afterwards.

The first stage of the weathering process is now complete as I have just finished all the detail painting and I have created a two tone scratching and chipping effect, which is often seen on late war german vehicles. After watching tutorials by panzermeister36 and shane smyth on YouTube I copied their techniques by creating a lighter tone of the dunkelgelb and applying it with a sponge. Then created a chocolate brown tone and I applied this with a fine sable 0 brush by humbrol, This colour represents the anti rust primer coat. Using the same process I simulated scratches along the side of the vehicle. The figures have also been completed. The next step will be gloss coating the model and applying the decals.

At this stage, tamiya x 22 clear was sprayed on the model as a gloss coat and the decals were applied. The decals were rather thick so a high gloss finish was required to prevent silvering. Another gloss coat was applied after the decals had received some micro set and sol to seal everything in place and to protect them from the weathering to come.

I then painted the gunner with the appropriate colours for the SS autumn camouflage scheme. His jacket was painted with Tamiya's German grey whilst his boots received a base layer of tamiya flat earth. This was followed by splotches of hull red and black green. After this was dry, I mixed gloss orange and sky grey at a 50/50 ratio and i applied this to the centre of the splotches, which had already been applied. His face was painted with Vallejo's excellent flesh coloured painting set as per the video on the "scale war machines" YouTube channel.

At this stage, Mig's dark wash was applied in all the recesses using a pin wash technique. after the wash had dried, I removed all of the eccess with a dry cotton bud. The gloss surface removed the need for thinner at this stage because a glossy surface doesn't allow the wash to stick to the flat surface parts.

After this was finished, I sprayed the model with a heavy coat of Tamiya's flat clear thinned 50/50 with their thinner.
