Yup, you've guessed it, another Tamiya Mossie - Reveal

Post by alextheblue »

Well, I've done it, finished my first plane wingy thing and I must say, I thoroughly enjoyed it. I did a ton of things wrong and learnt a heap of stuff along the way. Just like the Tamiya armour kits that I've built, this had no fit issues and everything went together very well. There was a bit of filling and sanding to do, but only minimal and this was more due to my inexperience rather than anything to do with the kit. The only gripe I had was with the decals. Thick!! If you stuck one on the floor you would risk tripping over the darn thing. After my fifth bottle of Micro Sol I resigned myself to the fact that this was the best that it was going to get.

The base is just a bit of flock matting that I had that I cut to size. Not the most convincing grass that I've seen, but I just wanted something simple to photograph it on.......and so on to the pics (apologies to all of the great plane builders here on the site, please bear in mind I am just a mere ham-fisted, armour building tread-head and the next one will be better. Hopefully!)

And there we have it. Yes, yes, I realised that I missed a bit of the green camo on the nose, but I had already matte-coated it, so decided to leave it. The panel lines aren't quite as noticeable as I would have liked, but I am now in possession of my new and improved bottle of Ultimate dark dirt, so I will be sure to use this next time.

A bit thank you to Nige for hosting this SiG, I just love these single subject builds and also to Lee and Paul for hosting it.

Thanks for taking a look at my meagre offerings! :th:

Superb.

I did a 1/48 Mossie - can't remember what make it was though - but I recall the decals being thick as paving slabs...I knew exactly what you meant.

Strangely enough, I was always baffled by people who built armour and not aircraft - and yet I always built aircraft and not armour.

But like you, I was a convert after building my first armour piece. I love building armour and plan to do many more - though WWII planes will always be my fav.

But congrats on your first "wingy thing" and well done - looks great.:

Thanks JD appreciate the kind words. I know what you mean, I can't believe it's taken me so long to build my first aircraft. Will definitely be doing more.

Thanks Paul appreciate that and yup, you'll be subjected to more of my efforts to try and piece together plastic objects that vaguely resemble aircraft! :th:
