Oil Wash... problem on stain marks

Hi guys...

i am always had a problem with oil wash in aircraft though have not used it in armor because am not yet build any armors yet.. am using oil paint mixed with turpentine oil.

And here is my process of doing it, using Tamiya flat acrylic paint as the base color and when done airbrush it with Pledge wipe and shine for a gloss coat then after apply the oil paint wash with a brush. Leaving it for about 30min. to 1 hour before wiping the wash. Upon cleaning using paper towel or cotton buds with a damped of turpentine oil... there are still stains or stain marks left making the model dark or dirty and not weathered.

Am thinking of the gloss coat am using with Pledge is too thin not enough that the oil penetrates through it and if i apply the gloss coat with brush it might get too thick that panel lines wont highlight anymore when wash applied.

I would ditch the pledge and buy a proper gloss coat. alclad aqua gloss being the best IMO, this is one of the reason i quit using pledge myself due to it not being resilient enough.

thanks for the input Paul... now i know pledge is the culprit, that's why i use Tamiya Panel Lines it leaves stains too.

You need Ultimate washes theyre much more forgiving on paintwork

yeah.. i want to try Ultimate washes but what hobby shop has it.. for sure we don't have it here in the Philippines.

The same thing used to happen to me with future. If you don't put enough coats on the oils can find their way through and stain. As Paul said, Alclad Aqua gloss is near bullet proof and even one coat can be enough to protect your work. I usually do two. It's thinner than future as well so you don't loose details as easily either.
It's truly wonderful stuff.

What he said about the Ultimate washes is a good plan too.
I've been using the. On both armour and aircraft for a while now and I love them to bits.
Well worth a try I'd say.

now... i'll throw away that Pledge to its real use as a household item and find that Alclad Aqua Gloss here in my local hobby shop asap.

bad thing is i'll redo my 1/48 Academy F-4C Phantom Vietnam War because of that ugly wash output, am not happy with it.

many thanks guys.. really appreciate you're inputs and it comes from your experience. I'm a comeback scale model hobbyist, my last build then is a Matchbox and Monogram kits, no acrylic paints yet only Revell and Tamiya enamels.
