So as i ran out of paint for the challenger (yes i know me run out of paint lol)

I thought i would make a start on the P-51.

Ive had price of 3m adhesive backed walnut veneer for some time and thought i would try it on the floor boards not he P-51, after some trimming it fitted fine and looked ok IMO.
The instrument panel raised detail was removed to allow the PE instrument panels to be fitted, with 4 parts lining it up care is needed, and with some krystal clear in the dials to simulate glass it looks good.

I put the Pe side supports on the resin seat and thats now ready for paint.

Lastly i gave the wood veneer a light oil wash to darken it up and bring the grain out (i added some extra grain with the back of my knife).

The resin gunsight was also added, ill get pics of that tomorrow :)

Short video update on the P-51

And tonights progress all buttoned up now, primed in alclad grey microfilm primer and given a few coats of alclad duraluminium. A good few hours work, taking each coat back with a grey Ultimate sander then 2500 grade wet and dry between each coat of primer (2 coats) and 3 coats of the duraluminum. Next up some masking of panels and spring in different tones of alclad.

Interesting that the packet for the seat says 'P51 Ejection seats'.

Looking fab as usual Paul. With the wood veneer can we call this the 'IKEA' P51 then?... :th:

A day spent masking the P-51 (i will cover the process in an update video tomorrow)

Masked of various random panels and sprayed them different alclad tones, then masked of the black anti glare strip and white fincap.

I then decided to mask off the blue strip next to the glare strip and the tail marking too.

So a fun day all in lol

Hey Paul,

nice job so far, have you clearcoated it? i heard that alclad paints don't like micro sol and set so have you protected your paint job with varnish?

thanks

Goose
