First Ever Tank - Tamya Tiger Mid Production

Post by GangsterNo1 »

Well here it is, my first ever tank and my first model after 30 years. Prior experience was of splodging enamel paint on poorly built Spitfires and Citadel miniatures as a young teenager. Working on a diorama for it and trying to take better pictures but I was eager to share and get some constructive feedback to improve. Everything was done with brushes as I haven't invested in an airbrush yet.

My own feedback to myself is lay off the weathering next time, I got carried away with all the possibilities and overdid it a bit. Also clean my camera lens.

Thanks to all in this community, especially Paul and Lee who take the time to post videos, tips, etc. All of it has helped me get to this point. The Mrs however does not send her thanks

For your first one you certainly did really well bud! Especially for brush painting.
It's actually superb work considering you didn't use an airbrush for some of those effects.
Even if you feel the weathering is overdone, it gave you great practice and you tested your limits of skill and preferences for weathering. So that's well done too.
An airbrush would certainly change how you do things and how your work appears. There no argument there.
Fine tuning much of what you learned with this with practice will serve you well too.
To be honest, you don't have to improve much, you did a lot right. It's just as you said, overdone.
But not everywhere.
Just tuning and practice and getting a few tools and you'll very quickly be knocking out really impressive pieces.

Well done on your first attempt, and I bloody good one at that!! Great work for a brush, wait till you get a air brush!! You will be well away.
Don't be to harsh on yourself with the weathering tho. If you add it to a dio you can soon over come it by putting it in the situation to depict the condition. End of the day it's a learning curve. You will get better. :th:
You can run, but you'll only die tired!

Thank you all for the feedback and words of encouragement, I really appreciate it. In fact I'm blown away as I was a little nervous about putting it out there.

The diorama should be finished tomorrow so will stick up some more pics. I've had some assistance from my two young sons (8 and 5) this evening and I'm still finding bits of PVA and fake grass stuck to myself. It got them off Minecraft for an hour so it can't be bad. Youngest is now badgering me to make his favourite tank from World of Tanks, the Panzer Ic.

Thanks again :bow::

Here's the finished diorama. Some of the mud pigment is still drying, hence darker than the rest, but I couldn't wait.

In my opinion the only thing that would add is a figure and put the grass under the tank in yellow due to the passage of vehicles...

Well done bud!!! It's hands down a thousand times better than anything that I was doing after 3 years of modelling.
Really fine work.
