1/35 Meng Pick Up with BFG!

Post by 5Craven »

So here is my entry into this GB;

Image

This is a representation of one of the many vehicles from the so called Arab spring uprisings in various countries in the near and middle east. The best way of categorizing them is as a Improvised Infantry Support Vehicle (IISV). You take a sturdy 4x4 vehicle and bolt what ever high caliber anti aircraft weapon that has fallen into your hands onto the back of it. Meng have produced three kits of examples of this kind of thing and this will be my attempt at one of them. If you had all three kits you could do a mix and match of vehicle bases and weapons to get different 'looks'.

So to the kit, here are the weapon sprues;

The vehicle sprues;

and the suspension sprue;

and the additional bits and pieces;

This will be my first Meng kit so I am really interested to see how it builds, and it is well outside my normal type of build.

Cool kit, if the bradley im building is anything to go by then it should be a great build.
John, whats on my bench? Usually a mess and a couple of different models a week.
My motto? I'm not lazy, just energy efficient.

Nice choise
I want to enter 1 of the other kits from the same range
I have all 3 of them but i am not really sure if you can mix and match the guns
It depends on the base they have and all 3 are mounted on a H beam frame but 2 kots are based on the Toyota Land Cruiser while the oldest of the 3 kits is based on a Toyota Hilux
I think the cargo part is different on the Hilux (larger) allthough that kit comes with the smallest gun
I will have a look and messure them to see if you are right because i may end up doing a mix and match if it fits
Anyway
Good luck with the build

I just checked the sizes of the trucks to see if you could mix and match
The Hilux messures 4x4.5 cm and the Land Cruisers messure 6x4.5 cm
The Hilux has a double cab wich makes the loading bed shorter so that is why it has the smaller 14.5 mm ZPU-1 gun
The other 2 have a 14.5 mm ZPU-2 or a 23 mm ZU 23-2
Those have the H beam supports to raise them above the wheelwells of the truck
It could still work to mix the up but you would have to do some scratch building to make a support for the gun if you want to add the bigger guns to the Hilux
But i have to say it makes me curious to see if it actually works
So i think i will build 2 out of the 3 kits i have at the same time and try to make sure

Awesome build choice Dave! These are so cool when built up. I seen at least a good dozen or so of them over the last year and they all looked amazing.
Good luck with it bud. Should be a fun build.
