Aufklärungspanzer 38(t) with 7.5cm KwK38 L/2. 1/35

Hi guys,

I recently came across this picture. Which is a build of an unknown guy.



And thought it looked kinda cool.
A 75mm Howitzer on a Hetzer! It seemed kinda strange, knowing the standard Hetzer is equipped
with a much more powerful gun.

It turned out to be a late war prototype.
Here’s the only real picture I could find of it.



Here's some info on the vehile:
The photo above is of the only prototype of the Aufklärungspanzer 38 with the 7.5cm gun (Gerät 564) completed before the end of the war. Several different armaments were considered for this vehicle (which shares the same general configuration with the 2cm armed Aufklärer auf Panzerkampfwagen 38(t)) including the 2cm FLAK 38 (Gerät 563),the 2cm KwK Zwilling (Gerät 585),and one with the 12cm mortar GraW42 (Gerät 586). A similar vehicle on the 38(d) chassis was to carred the 7.5cm AK7 gun.

As with all vehicles of this class, the vehicle would be used for recon purposes only. The light armor and open-topped compartment would have made any direct firefight undesirable at best, suicidal at worst.

I wanted to build it.
I realized I had an Aufklärungspanzer 38(t) that I scratch-build-converted to
an imaginary mobile artillery piece. Which in the end I wasn’t really happy with.
So I wrecked that one and used it as a base for this one.

I started of with the Howitzer







Then I took the old model apart.





And started building up from there.
The floor plate.



The sides.



The front and back.





Assembled.



Added the Schürzen, lights, boxes, exhaust, shovel, handels and hinges.









And my build was done.

Next came painting.
The primer layer.



I tried a matt varnish to protect the primer coat from rubbing off
ones I started with the hair spray wash-off.



The hairspray layer.



I wanted to simulate the look and feel of the old images.
So I gave it a winter camo.



After chipping.



Next was some detail painting and some oil paint rendering.







Next were pigments and glue for mud and graphite for bare metal.

And here’s the result.
Quite a make over.
