What is a SIG?

I know I am new so sorry for the dumb question but I just read lee's article "What is a Group Build" and I am wondering how to describe the difference. Is it just the fact that it is non military? Or is there more to it? Or is it a matter of who is hosting? Any clarity would help.

Its a Special Interest Group build so rather than a group build on WW2 fighters it more specific by doing say P-51 mustangs :thumb2:
