Hi All,
I was sorting some stuff out in the loft and came across the Airfix 617 Squadron Dambusters 60th anniversary gift set sitting under a pile of boxes. The Lancaster had already been done (with my son some 11 years earlier!). But the Tornado was all there waiting to be completed. So a month later and £300 spent on gear, I've finally completed it!
Not the best tooled model - lots of filling and sanding - I lost most of the raised detail on the sides. But I found the experience quite absorbing and strangely relaxing (although there were a few moments when I wanted to put it on the floor and stamp on it!). The decals kept breaking up and there's a lot of silvering going on (an age thing or was it the Humbrol Decalfix causing it?). But other than that, I'm quietly pleased with the results.
I've now started the newly tooled Airfix Mk1 Spitfire (A010711A) - just awaiting paints from eModels. Hopefully my airbrushing will improve on this one!
Have to say thank you to Paul for his techniques videos - incredibly helpful.
Any feedback will be welcome (but go easy!!!).
All the best,
Mike
