RSOV w/ MG, Hobby Boss

Post by Nach70 »

This is all new to me. Was into model building long, long time ago, in my teens and early 20´s. Did airplanes, figures, armour and ended up making racing cars. Somehow stopped and picked up the hobby a couple of years ago.
All the info in the net has been inspiring, specially ISM ( thanks Paul & Lee, and everybody :thumb2: :thumb2: ), so I thought I would join ( late   ) to this group build as I managed to finish some vehicles such as a HumVee, SAS Pink Panther,SAS Jeep and a couple of half tracks. Airplanes are my main interest, but I sure enjoy Military vehicles as well.
Also, forums, photobucket, computers....is all new to me ( never took part in anything or way through the net), I somehow managed to stay in stone age as far as new technology is concerned. Again thanks to Paul for his tutorial on how to upload... :thumb2: :thumb2: , and hope I make things happen.

My choice for this GB is.....

I believe it was used by rangers in the modern Iraq/Afghanistan conflicts

Again I´m no expert, but I hope to make a dio ( again new to me), but I haven´t decided yet what figures to add. I´m worried to make mistakes as far as weapons and such, like I said, I´m not an expert and I need to do some research before I choose anything to go with this vehicle.

A well chosen kit, love the looks of that. Should prove to be a fun and interesting build.
As for the rest... Welcome. ISM is certainly my happy place when it comes to modelling. It's the first and the last place I go.
So well chosen there too. :)

Step 1 completed

Made the engine, applied a primer coat of X-18 Tamiya Black, used Vallejo´s Liquid Silver ( which felt very like a " watery" version of Tamiya´s X-11 :D ), applied some dry brushing with , precisely Tamiya´s X-11, and X-10, used some panel line wash from AMMO MIG ( from the set of PLW for metal planes) and finally some Fresh Engine Oil from Ammo MIG. Good enough for it not to be seen...... :shifty: :shifty: :shifty:

Also the chasis is completed.

Managed to do some work.Built most of the stuff, dried fitted to see how I´ll tackle the painting....

Just a few bits and bobs to make before all the build is completed.

So far, enjoying the build. Nice detail all along.
Dry fitting

Most of the partsImage

What I did try, was to replicate the canvas cover over the seats, the ones you use to protect the original seat. I saw it in a photo and thought it would look good. Not so sure after i did it ¡¡¡¡ Image

Some tissue paper, PVA glue and painting

I´m not that happy with the head rests, I might take them off. Not happy with the combination. And I´ve seen them without them in the mentioned photos.

Managed to do some work

Drilled the exhaust, and had to put the headlights at this stage

Nice out of focus job : : :

Exhaust came next. Decided to use MR Colour Steel buffable as a base, added some rust colour from AK, ( light and medium rust), and some Brown Iron Oxide pigment from Vallejo

Primed the chasis, with White Vallejo aerosol primer rattle can ( in inventory due to some compulsive buying at early stages), not great, but I have to use it at least. Good exercise to see the differences between products and see for oneself what suits best. I´ll be using MR Surfacer 1200 for the body. Gave a coat of Tamiya X-18, as I want to give it a "darkish" shade, and YES I do acknowledge there are black primers  . I´ve chosen to use Tamiya XF-24 rather than the suggested XF-58 given in the colour reference. Added some chipping, Black gray 862 from Vallejo, and did some wear and dry brushing with Tamiya´s XF-54 to pick up the details. Some pin wash from AMMO ( Dark brown PLW) and some Engine grime(Ak) and some fresh oil from Ammo MIG.I´ll be using Mr Hobby H305( colour also suggested along XF-58) for the rest of the bodywork looking to have some contrast between the more hidden chasis and the bodywork. Let´s see how it works out.
So much looking forward to use Mr Surfacer and Mr Hobby and that lovely smell........Image
