turrets walkers and speeders ... Oh my!

After seeing a few of these Star Wars sig builds come back to life and after building a rather big armour dio, I felt the need for speed.. :eeek:
I also decided to pull the walker off the shelf and finally finish it.
So...
My plan is to build my first forced perspective piece.
I'll use three speeders of three scales attacking an ATAT on a simple diorama.
I've seen a few similar pieces done so it should be really difficult. ;)

Firstly... Priming the models that are already built and spraying a bit of paint on them.

MPCs 1/144 scale ATAT.
I built this some time ago and it's been on the shelf for ages.

Image

Then the wee speeder that comes with it...

Image

Then the Retro Kits 1/72 speeder. Not an easy kit to build, but not a bad kit for fellas used to working with resin kits (not me)

Image

A bit of paint on the two speeders ended the evenings festivities.

The next speeder will be my 1/48 scale bandai speeder (a second one that I ordered)
I'll start the build on that tomorrow.

Hopefully all wil go as planned. :D

Good quick start, that would have taken me two weeks.
Great to incorporate the AT shelf queen just waiting for her chance
Interested to see what you have worked out for this build

Very nice Mr C. looking forward to seeing how this one goes.

Love the Bandai speeder by the way - an absolute gem of a kit.

Its still the best battle in the whole saga - in my not so humble opinion - :th:

Gonna be Awesome I'm telling ya!...
Can already see the finished dio in my head as i write this...
Are you thinking green stuff sculpting on some spare figures for the Rebels in the trenches and a laser turret or two??:
Continued success bud... :thumb1:
:cheers2:

Gonna camp out here in the snowy Hoth wastelands a bit and see what battle plans develop.. :pistols:

I haven't started to plan the base as yet Andy... You did just give me an idea though. :th:

Not much done as yet, just work on the speeders. All ready for washes now.

Really like the effect you're creating with the different scales and forced perspective. Looking forward to seeing how the AT-AT will look and the ground based turrets.

I had a toy of this when I was a kid, the speeders were about the size of a 50p piece and I had them on wires, buzzing around the walkers as they approached the power generators.

Oh to be a kid again - well, a little kid anyway, :hi:

Thanks Fellas.

Got the Ultimate dark dirt wash off today, not too impressed with the results, a bit too dirty for my liking. My gloss must have been sloppy.
Too late now.

And a mock up of all the models in relation to each other...

The bulk of the work of late has been on the ATAT, all painting.
Firstly a coat of ammo 909 light dunklegrau base.

Image

Then a fade coat of ammo dunklegrau highlight..

Image

Then grey shine to fade the top surfaces even further.

Image

Then Aqua gloss to seal it all in...

Image

Some loverly Ultimate Dark Dirt for the first wash.

Image

Testors Dullcote for the flat coat and to seal the dark dirt in.

Then a wash of Ultimate concrete ...

Next some work with oils. A rust streak treatment with wins or Newton burnt sienna.

Next some more fading with some white oils in a few localised places.

That's it for now. It will get some pigment work with some uber fine ground pigments once the diorama is built... That s the next bit.

This is going to look really awesome! The weathering on the AT-AT is really good.

Thanks fellas.

The base has been started, just a simple thing this time.
A piece of old chip board shelving with some celluclay spread over top. I dug a few trenches in it and stuck a pair of turrets around to look like one of the rebel defensive positions.
I may add a few small hills once the bottom layer has dried.
I sat the AT AT and speeders in it to mark out the positions.

Looking good. Love the rust effects on the walker. Made me steal my Mum's tube of burnt sienna from her artists paints set for when I weather my AT-ST later today.

I did get permission so no harm no foul!!

It's easier to ask for forgiveness than permission sometime ;)

Just awesome, Mike. The forced perspective from the 1/48 scale view...really works well to my old eyes. Really great idea and so far the follow through is looking vundabar!
