I've been waiting for this one for awhile. Tamiya's 1/48 line has always caught my interest, so I decided to do a 1:48 hetzer for this SiG.

The box with an amazing art work.

Shot of the parts in their bags.

One of the reason I love these Tamiya 1/48 kits, is the die-cast metal chassis!

The box holding the chassis is a bit worn, but nothing damaged :thumb1:

Alrighty, lets get started! This is my first SiG on this forum so I'm pretty excited to participate. I'm still a noob at modeling,in fact this is only my second kit so we will see how this goes.

My very "basic" tool set.

The Kit

I had a little trouble glueing the plastic to the metal chassis, I was using Testors glue for wood and metal but, it would not adhere properly. I got it to stick in the end.

Construction of main gun. It's a one piece barrel! No more worrying about that nasty seem line!

Look at the level of detail on the upper hull! Remember this is in 1/48 scale.

Nice to see a smaller scale Hetzer
I had trouble with those metal chassis in the past
There is some sort of coating on it wich allows you to glue parts on it but i think it is mostly done to prevent it from rusting
If you have trouble glying parts on it some CA glue will do the trick
It glues everything , metal , styrene , fingers so basicly anything you want and don't want to glue
You made some nice progres so far and don't worry about a basic tool set
I have tools that i rarely use so there is no point in buying tools if you don't use them
Maybe some sanding sticks are good to add to the tools you have as they make clean up work easier but basicly you have all the stuff you need
Keep up the good work

I am really enjoying this kit! It's so well engineered, all the parts fit properly no need for filler. It is a small scale kit but it's packed with details.

That's an excellent looking kit, and considering the tools that you've chosen, it's an excellent looking build.
Really well done Strum.

You really should consider using photobucket or another similar photo sharing site for your pics bud. You would be able to post more than three pics peer post and your posts would strain the forum resources.
Too many uploaded images can shut down the forum.

I am getting ready to paint the upper hull with a Tamiya spray can TS-61 NATO Green, I don't have a primer though. Is a primer really necessary before the main cote. I'm kinda on a budget build :(

You should be just fine using the Tamiya spray lacquer over your Hetzer without primer. As a general guideline, usually lacquers or enamels will have very good adhesion over the bare kit plastic. A primer coat is usually needed under acrylic paints, as some acrylics don't adhere well to bare plastic. A primer coat is also a good idea when your kit has photo etch, scratch built details, or any different materials/colors other than the kit plastic, etc. The primer coat here gives you a uniform start for your main color coats.

Lovely clean build fella! The tamiya sprays work really well just remember nice light coats, lots of thin ones better than one thick one :thumb2:

Sorry for the very very late update but I've been distracted. Could not finish the Hezter SiG. Anyways attached the road wheels to the lower hull and painted.
Image

Upper hull assembled and painted. I used a Tamiya spray NATO green for the main body and then brush painted the Camo patterns using Vallejo chocolate brown and orchre brown.
Image
The colors are not exactly accurate but it's all I had.

Almost finished.

Sorry if photos are bad quality,im using my phones' camera it's all I have.

All I have left to do is assemble the tracks, put on decals, weather it and I'll be done!

Hell yeah sturm, got to love that camo, that is awesome. You really captured the hard line war patterns. Now I have to ask cause I'm crazy for them, any diorama in that beautiful build's future?
