Here's a bit of a rough try at building a Bf-109 with a specific goal in mind - shinyness. The pics are kind of rubbish, but they sort of make it look a bit better than it really is mistake wise, parts missalignment and stuff...anyway here she is:









No weathering, no nothin'. Just plane ol' model with some mods to the parts. Oh and it's all grey, because that's kind of the only paint I had and could afford at the time... Hope it doesn't cause anyone an eyesore!

It's all good buddy,is this your first model? If so, that's how I started my first build. It was mostly painted in one color because it was all I could afford. My model was not weathered either because I did not know how to do it. You did a good job mate! At least you got the decals on I managed to destroy mine.

I would say your objective was met with great results! It does appear shiny. Looks good man. Is that the Airfix kit? If so, I have the same one and plan to do the Adolf Galland version as well.

My first model back to the hobby was two colors! Lacquer rattle can on the top, rattle can on the bottom. No weathering either.

[*]Well, we all start somewhere. My first model was a snap-tight B 25 mitchell that my father helped me assemble. No paint or anything. I was 8 years old. And after that I proceeded to butcher almost every kit I touched. I didn't learn real patience with building until I was in High School. I have a background in building R/C kits which is my real passion. But even there there is one skill that binds all modelers together and that is patience. You built a clean model your first go around. Keep building. Try a new skill with every build. Looking forward to your next project. One other thing, don't ever let rivet counters ruin your day. 9 times out of 10 They are insecure about their own builds and are just looking for something to criticize. That's what's great about ISM. We are here to help each other.

Looks cool in the last two pics, like a PR version. Nothing wrong with that build at all given your experience. Not that I'm that far in front of you! As Strawnobi says, it doesn't matter what any one else thinks, if you're happy with it that's all that counts. The nice thing about posting work up on here is that it does push you to up your game a bit, and you will always get constructive comments.

Thanks guys. This is actually my second model since coming back to the hobby. But this time around I thought I'd do a bit of research on my own and try and devise techniques to build aircraft that please my eye. So this is just the second step in that direction and I learned a lot from it. Thanks for all your replies and encouragement - it's well appreciated.

We build cause we enjoy doing so. I especially like the black and white pics. It looks good! Hope to see more in the future.

You have to start somewhere and you are off to a good start! Keep up the good work, practice and one day you will be a master of the art of modelling!

Thanks for the replies, guys. Next bird will be an I-16 and I've planned all sorts of nasty (weathering, etc.) treatment to it, especially after watching all the nice work posted here. Thank you for the inspiration.
