Masterbox 1/35 BMW German/Russian Confrontation "Crossroads" Diorama Reveal

Post by PanzerGarage »

Hi Guys,
This Masterbox kit has been on the bench since my Tiger and have only completed the Bike at this stage (unwashed). Figures yet to complete. I like MB kits due to their unique/different poses and nice box art that you can use as a base for a diorama. The goal here is to do exactly that, although the foliage will be tricky I suspect.

Image

The decals on this bike do not come with this kit. I based them on this bike below from 1st SS Pz and constructed my own number plates.
Some washing of the bike later should bring out more depth but will do once I complete the base so I can match colours - see how we go I guess

Pictures of where I am up to are here:
Need to trim the spare I think

Next was to use plaster of Paris. What I also did was use some normal crepe bandages, cut them in strips, dip them in the Plaster and apply, then a light coat of plaster over that. Then painted in Darth Earth
Image

Start adding foliage. Best to start with the small/short and build up from there in layers.
Image

This is where I am up to. I am waiting for some longer foliage to arrive (and hopefully some flowers) and will add that, as well as figures to be painted but you get the idea. I have to also cut the wood base, route it and stain it.

Just after I posted the last pics the taller shrubs arrived. So I think that is probably done now, except for wood base plus figures.

Thanks Mate. The foliage was tricky as I have never done this type of dio before. Plenty of photos helped some great online shops. There is some great stuff in the US but was too expensive. Not looking forward to painting the cam on these figures though.

Just some updated pics. I have been delayed a little with other things but here goes.
I decided to base coat the cam for swamp pattern
Image
Image

Then forgot that the Bike is LAH SS, which did not use swamp pattern - Damn!. So I had to start again. Here are some images of the Germans so far
Image
Happy with the Cam so far, Have not completed them yet though (Matt coat etc)
Image

The Russians Turned out ok too - not complete yet (Weapons)
Image

So the next stage is to:
Finish Russian weapons and slings, Matt Coat them and dust/blend into the scene
Finish German rank Insignia, Weapons/Slings, Attach Gas mask canisters, Matt Coat and blend.
Hopefully completed next few days

Nice work on the camo smocks, both the Russians and Germans. Look forward to the finished scene.

So I sat down for the whole day today to smash this out and finish off those little things (like slings/final paint/Dusting etc). I can say that it took some hours to get it all done in time as waiting for oils to dry can be painful.Overall I enjoyed the kit from Masterbox. Well worth it and interesting subjects/poses.
Anyway here is the final reveal:

The German SS Cam took sometime to do as to make it work requires you to go back several times. Only disappointment is that I could not find the Green SS rank decals for the left sleeve, although it is on their collars.

Love this pic. It turned out well - I sent it to a friend on their phone and they initially thought it was real.

For such a small kit with a bike and five figures you can make a very interesting and subtle piece.
Youtube video I will place up in next few days
Hope you enjoyed the build and hopefully maybe of assistance to some.
