Hey fellas,
So this isn't a Hind.... It's not even Russian.
Before this was a Hind SIG it was going to be a chopper buddy build.... I guess I missed the memo.
Haha.
Just to be a dick I decided to build mine anyway and post it here.

However... I'll be paying for it.

The kit that I chose is an Academy Pave Hawk 60G in 1/35. That's all fine and good until you consider that it was a kit that was traded to me, unboxed, sprues broken up, and some parts were built.
When I opened it up..., there was errant HAIR!!!
No idea who's hair is was of from what.... But there was hair

It's supposed to be this...

Here's what was in the bundle...

The first bits of the build went well, some of the rotar assembly was already built.

The seats were pretty fiddly and there are some typically annoying academy pin marks in stupid places.
I'm going to be using some figures so I may just have to worry about harnesses instead of the pin marks.

Subassmblies for the instruments were fairly simple. I've no idea of they need any extra work at the moment. I'll need to look at some reference shots and see what or if I want to add anything.

The weapons system was kind of cool. I think that there's a black dog set or a big Ed set that would improve these. Still they don't look to bad for what they are. I may yet check around for those.

That's about as far as I got today, it's Halloween here tonight so I'll be taking the wee ones out for candy. Tomorrow is another day.

I think it could be a nice kit
I have another version of this in the stash and have some pe for it
But i don't know if there is a big ed for this version but from what i do know there are sets for the UH-60 A and L version
I had to get the L for my AH-60L DAP (gunship version)
So maybe that will work for this kit
There are interior , exterior and cockpit sets and a mask set

But i am looking forward to seeing more of this build

I'm sure that pieces of that big Ed will work for this thing, probably not all of it, but some. I thought that I saw a more basic set on scale mates a few days ago, but I can't remember at the moment.
When I start working on the exterior I'll see about getting something then.
I checked out the mask sets and for me to get them here it's just cheaper to use tape, $38 for a mask set isn't really worth it... Though I hate that idea.... I hate masking glass.

Before I went to bed last night I got the interior set up for paining and test fit the outer hull.
Nothing is glued in these shots except the large parts. The seats, instrument panels and large blocky thing in the middle are loose.

The fuselage is probably going to have quite a few fit issues that I can see. Not because of the interior, it's mostly because it's a very large and not very well engineered pair of pieces.

Today will probably be about painting the interior and the details.

I figured that since you're building that chopper for the NADR GB we'd have something cool to natter about.

My kit might be a bit less of a ball ache than yours though.

No, that hair thing isn't creepy at all....nope....

Nice recovery! That fuselage looks like some sequential gluing to get that baby to line up close.

In carpentry I think they call it stitching.
I've had to do it a few times with these kits with big pieces lately.

I'm like the crazy uncle that shows up at all the family parties and makes everyone uncomfortable by telling inappropriate jokes, and may or may not be wearing pants, then gets drunk and craps in the bird bath.

hahaha.

Anyway... Got a bit more work done on the Hind Hawk.
Most of the interior assembly and I did some farting about in the exterior.
I'm about as far along as I'll go for now until the figures that I've ordered arrive.
Once they show up I'll decide if I want to add more to the kit or not.
There's a huge amount of detail missing from the interior and if it's going to be really visible with the figures installed then I'll probably see about adding more detail.

SO... the interior is done and I've primed and painted pretty much most of it.

I've dry fitted the fusalage a couple of times now and it's going to have quite a few fit issues I believe.
The interior is a very difficult fit to the space, so it's going to be a tricky thing.
Once the figures arrive and I get them built and installed I'll be able to move ahead with build.
So another few weeks as the figs shipped from China a day or so ago. Usually takes two to three weeks.

WHOHOOO!!! Figures arrived!!!! Built them last night and now I'm planning out the base for it. We'll see how well that goes.
There's a how-to vid coming out of it too.

I may see about adding more figs, but I'm not sure about that yet. The story that I want to tell is a bit of a simple one this time.
Still need to do weapon slings and add maybe a few bits and pieces on the fellas web gear. Some fill needs tending to as well. They were a bit gappy.

I've been busy doing a whole crap tonne of work on the ol'girl the last few days.
Most of it was making videos of the work that I was doing. Takes longer to do the video than it does to do the work.

Either way... this is what I've done on the Pave Hawk dio of late... I'll post a bunch of pics and text tomorrow when I have a bit more time, for those that have little time for four hours of videos hahaha!

Today I added some Mr Surfacer 500 and 1000 to the majority of the surfaces of the base and some Mr dissolved putty to a few of the gaps and overly rough surfaces.

I used some Tunnocks wrappers to make the aluminium sheeting on the roof as well. That will be painted a dark rubber black then dry brushed with a dull metal colour later.

Then I added some Vallejo sandy paste to all the concrete surfaces.

Finally I attached the building to the base and sealed the edges.

nah! Not even close. I just have a lot of time and the will to spend it on my hobby.
You know how they say that 1000 hours is the time it takes to master any skill.
Well, by my calculations, I've been at this for just over 26,000 hours, and I'm far from mastering it... Very very far.
So, either I'm a talentless bum, or scale modelling is really hard.
I'm going with the latter.
That makes all of us awesome for even trying it.

This morning I managed to get some primer on the base and begin the very basic level of base colours and some detail painting.
It's not much to look at because of how raw it looks. I always hate this part, its where my mojo can decide to take off for greener pastures.

Andreas Skaar decided that I needed to have air conditioning for the little shop of horrors... He was right.
So I hacked up some styrene into a box, stuck a piece of PE screen to it and called it done.

Then I masked off the asphalt and back walls for the spraying of the base colours.

Then I removed some of the tape, painted some of the details in their base colours or shadow colours, and cleaned up any overspray.

This area is meant to represent an aluminum sheet metal roof sealed with tar. Right now it's base painted with flat black and later I'll drybrush the high points with a dull gunmetal to show the tar worn off some of the ridges to expose the aluminum.

Tonight, or maybe tomorrow I'll start the fading and more detail painting.

Done a boat load of work now.
The diorama is all but finished and the chopper is ready for paint.

I've painted all the details, added several different Ultimate washes, a few oils for the wet spots, and a couple of movie posters for sh#ts and giggles.
Les Mess has also provided the name for the piece.

Since the store is a joke poking some fun at our young Wesley Ellsmore, "Wes' Pickle Emporium" Less thought "Escape from the Pickle" was an appropriate name... I agree

I need to add some incidentals like some trash, bits of paper, maybe a can or two, and empty box, that sort of thing.

The last couple of days have been spent painting the helo. What a pain in the arse!
Once I came up with a plan (thanks to Paul and Wes) it went much easier than I expected, but still not an easy thing to paint.

I have discovered that even though they're a pain to paint, I like building them. So this may not be the last one that I build.

I primed it with the black Badger stynlrez primer then discovered that I didn't have any of the colours that I needed to paint the thing unless I wanted to paint it black... Which I didn't.
So I had to mix a bunch. It's also possible that these things are painted much the same as NATO armour and are painted under a template, where they all look the same. Though I couldn't really find any definite info on this before I started painting.
If it is true it's too late now and I no longer care. Haha.

Started with a medium grey made with some mig and Vallejo paints...

Then I made up the other two colours from some mig paints, a dark green and a medium green and added those,..

I ended up not being happy with the way that the camo was sitting so I resprayed most of it.
Then I detail painted and gloss painted with Aqua gloss...

Then on went all the damned decals. Freaking hate decals!!

In a bit I'll seal it again and start the washes.

I sealed it again and then hit it with a nice coat of Ultimate Dark Dirt.
It seems to have done it's job, I'm happy with how it looks.

a couple of hours work and a few hundred cotton buds later... all cleaned up.

Then I hit it with a flat coat and called it finished.

Tomorrow I'll add the trash and then take some proper pics.
I guess I'll call it done after that and have to find somewhere to put it.
