So here's my next build
its a 1/48 Fw-190 A-5 from eduard!
its the first time ill be using photo-etch and ill be trying out an hataka paint set!

so here's the things I bought;


and here's the paint set;

finished the cockpit, which has brilliant detail!


I really love the seat belts!

I've sprayed the cockpit side walls and gun bay in hataka's black grey and glued the fuselage halves together...
so far i like the hataka paint but from the black grey I've used, it seems to dry satin but I don't know how the other paints come out , but i will be using them hopefully other this weekend!

okay... so now I've glued the wings and finished painting the gun bay!


I'm loving the detail on this kit so far , especially the landing gear bay....

She looks a beauty. Great work on the cockpit. I've got one of these so will be watching on with interest.

Special skills on those seat straps - they look superb!!

The kit's brilliant , it been a pleasure to build so far!

so I built the beautifully detailed engine ( thanks eduard!) yesterday and just two minuets ago finished the painting of it !
I'm really happy with the build so far props to eduard for this brilliant kit!

the engine was composed of several circular parts on top of each other;



... and then the exhausts were simply added to the sides , I'm really surprised at the simplicity of the construction of the engine , another well done to this kit!



... the whole engine was base coated in vallejo's metal colour acrylics 'exhaust manifold' ;



and the rest was done using a black wash and silver dry brush to detail the metal and using some citadel paints to paint the details!

its been a couple of weeks since i last did any work , so this weekend i thought i would start with some painting,

the mostly assembled model all masked up for a coat of humbrol primer ...


and primed ready for base coats.

I'm folowing this with great interest.

cheers! regarding the exhausts , I base coated them with some red brown from Tamiya then washed the whole thing with a brown wash (any dark coloured wash will do) then dry bushed it with citadel's ryza rust , another wash then a quick dry brush with some black dry-brushed on at the tips to create a burnt effect.

A bit of a jump ahead ....
I tried the hairspray technique with some rather old looking vallejo silver paint and i have to say i really did cock it up
,the base coat did not go on very well and i had to hand paint some touch ups and i also had to had to paint the mottling by hand . Because of this the base coat did not look very good and i can only say that i really did mess it up . also a warning ; DONT use maskol if you want a hard edge.
This made me start loosing steam and the best thing to stop me putting it back in the box never to be seen again was to crack on with it ,
so I've gloss coated the model and put on the decals then I added another gloss coat ready for a wash.

I've now Finished the build and over the last few days iv'e spent my evenings making the base , to start with i cut some foam board to the size of a picture frame as a base to start from , this is because the foam board is less likely to warp that the backing card witch i used for my last builds base.

I then used DAS clay (any air drying caly will work) for the ground work and some cut up wooden sticks , like the ones from ice lollys for the hardwood stand.

I then used sand and ballast for some more ground work to create a natural looking texture.
here it is masked up for a coat of various shades of brown ;



i then added grass using citadel static grass and some woodland scenic stuff



and to make the wood look a bit more worn and old i used some wood oil;






and with that the build is finished , hope you guys have enjoyed it (i certainly have ) and i will be posting pictures of the finished build after Christmas.

To bad you meshed things up. It was such a nice looking build.
Still my compliments on keeping at it and finish the fw190.
Your base is looking good, really love the weathered wood.

I hope you'll post some more pics of your finished plane.
