Global Scale Modeller

Hello everyone, this is my first build here.

I actually started this in August as a "quick build" but as usual, it's actually quite a slow build!

I'm building it mostly out of the box - I'm a "if-it-looks-ok-it-is-ok" kind of modeller! The cockpit was undercoated with black primer and then oversprayed with mid grey. I used Ammo primer for the first time and I like it.





The only addition I've made so far is to replace the supplied etched belts with some Eduard ones. I'm going off these PE belts, they look good but they're just such a faff to use!



The fuelage and wings fit really well but the seams need quite a bit of filling.





I primed the whole lot in black before starting on the colours. I've always used Tamiya acrylics in the past but decided to give Mr Hobby acrylics a go this time. I've managed to get a shaded finish that I'm reasonably happy with so far.







So this is where I'm at now, the RLM76 has had a gloss coat to protect things before I move onto the top sides. Incidentally, I've always used Klear as a gloss coat but I've often struggled to get a decent finish on a consistent basis. This time I tried mixing Klear with Ultimate Airbrush Thinner and found it gave a much better finish - sprayed better and dried slightly glossier. Win win!

Me too! No rivet counting at chez Dave. I'll give that Klear tip a go, although I've just brought back a couple of bottles of Aqua Gloss from Telford so I'm itching to get that in the airbrush at the moment.

Heard a lot about Aqua Gloss but not tried it myself - let me know what you think when you've had a chance to try it!

looks great so far. i built the R14 version of the Ta152 recently. i lucked out with mine, as i didn't have to fill one seam. as a matter of fact, that was the kit that got me back into building aircraft again. up to that point i was an armor only kind of guy. that thing almost fell together.
can't wait to see what scheme you go with.

Looks great! I have one of these in my stash as well, I'll be following this one. I've also just ordered my first bottle of Ammo Primer. Do you have any pointers or reviews on its use?

Thanks for the comment! Ammo primer is pretty easy to use, you can use it straight from the bottle but I usually thin it down using Ammo's thinner. I haven't sanded it so can't comment on how it stands up to this - I've just been using it as a basecoat. My favourite primer so far though!

Thanks for the input, sorry it's taken so long for me to reply. I've actually used the Ammo grey primer that I ordered. I too love this stuff. I applied mostly straight from the bottle, but found that I was getting tip dry pretty quickly. I did add some Ultimate thinner to it and it worked wonders. The stuff lays down smooth. I also did a really light sanding with some 3600 grit sanding pads and the stuff sands beautifully, made the finish of the primer super smooth. I then top-coated it with Ammo medium gunship grey. Produced a wonderful finish.

Good stuff, needs a couple of coats and make sure you give your brush a good clean a soon as you can 'cos it dries on the needle and other bits in a thick layer if you're not sharpish with the strip.

Thanks for letting me know. I'm lucky, I have plenty of Klear left at the moment (including an un-opened bottle!) but good to know this is a good alternative!

Looking very nice so far.

One off my favourit airplanes off ww2.
I read that when Herr Tank took it for a testflight (without guns), it was spotted by a P-51 which emediatly dove on it. Herr Tank saw the Mustang, opened his throttle and disapeared in the distance, leaving the Mustang behind unable to follow

The glacier shifted slightly today and I managed to get most of the RLM82 sprayed. Not entirely successful because there's some strange patchiness to the colour now it's dry - temperature related maybe? Not the end of the world though!

Here we go! Most of the camo is now complete. I've got to spray the patches of RLM82 on the fuselage sides where the crosses go along with the red/yellow bands. There's also quite a bit of tidying up to do to get rid of some overspray and to hide some dodgy airbrushing on the tail!

Paintwork now completed. I.D bands masked then sprayed red/yellow using Ammo paints.







Next up is decalling and a start on the weathering.

Very nice work!

A bit more progress. Decalling done using the kit supplied markings - had read a few comments elsewhere saying the decals were a bit cr*p. I had no problems at all and found they bedded down into the detail well with some decal solutions. I did replace a few of the tiny ones with some leftovers from a Tamiya sheet simply because the HB one were a bit "blobby".



Panel lines were highlighted using ready mixed washes - I usually make them myself with oil paint. Much quicker and easier this way!





Annoyingly, the Ammo paint seemed to react to the white spirit in the washes, first time I've had a problem when using acrylics. I'll have to respray the red stripe but it gives me a chance to try the Tamiya flexible masking tape!







Fiddly bit ready for colour! I forgot to paint the undercarriage legs when doing the wheelbays. I'm going to try another new toy - Ammo's acrylic metal colour on these.

Almost there! Just a few fiddly bits left to do. Annoyingly the flat varnish has frosted in places. I've re-Kleared the worst bits and will reapply some flat varnish to hopefully sort things out.

Pretty good - I only used it on the oleo strut, but it brush painted well. I haven't airbrushed them yet. Not sure if they're as good as the Vallejo ones as not used them yet.

I used RLM81 and 82 for the upper colours and 76 for the undersides. All Mr Hobby acrylics.

I threw it away, use Alclad's Matt now. Bit more expensive but no problems ever.

Yeah I've heard lots of positives about this varnish but I believe it's lacquer based - I only use acrylics as I spray indoors!
