What do you think of this pic of the Mighty Viggen? - In real life it would seem far dirtier than many models I've seen.
On the bench:
Airfix Lancaster B.II
Dragon M16 MGMC Halftrack
Academy Ontos

I think that most modellers aren't very comfortable with doing such a amount of dirt on a plane
Besides that point there is the scale of your kit
The smaller your build the sooner it will look too dirty even if you have reference of a real plane with similar features
But those are just my thoughts on it
I make armor kits mostly so for me dirt is a good thing

Given the recent bullsh*t controversy being spewed by a few antagonistical wanksandwiches on faceboob, pootube, and booble+ I'd say that if you weathered your model that way and then showed it off anywhere but here on the forum, you'd get no end of grief for it.
For myself, I think that if you like that look then by all means do it. What makes a model awesome is, first and foremost, your own opinion of it.
Not other folks'. The second thing that makes it awesome is how much you learned and how much you improved by building it.
If you think that it's awesome and you enjoyed building it, then it's perfect. It did it's job.
Seeking the opinion of other people on your work is fine and good if you feel that you need that sort of thing. Some truly believe that there is actually such a thing as "Constructive Criticism", when all modern educational doctrine has completely abandoned this concept and exchanged it for the hands on positive reinforcement form of learning.
Having confidence and awareness of your abilities... and being happy with them is very important. Improving your skills through practice and research is the best way to success, not being beratted by a bunch of prattling know-it-alls on the internet that get a thrill out of demeaning others. There are far too many people in our hobby that are like that to avoid unfortunately, far too many sweaty basement dwellers with nothing to do but to hurt.
I'd say go nuts and build it exactly the way that you want to do it and defy the Accepted Opinions of the masses bud.
It's what I do. It's my hobby... I make it mine.

And if they give you grief, add more dirt, chipping and crud till the original model is barely visible as a metaphorical middle finger!

Great comments guys - I've never built for others satisfaction, only my own - I'm very rarely dissatisfied!

Must be a Canadian thing
O well new we have a new word to add to our vocabulary
He is right though , there are a lot of these sad people who take more time to talk bad about what you do then they do for their own modelling

I teach art at the college level and have to disagree that all modern educational doctrine is based on positive reinforcement. There are good and bad teachers, and yes i always find what is good in a students work. But in my field (video game art) i have to deconstruct and critique a students work. If i didn't they wouldn't learn fast enough to get placed after school. I'm down right harsh, i might even say brutal on my kids because I want them to learn as much as they can as fast as they can. But they also are paying for that experience. Another difference in education is that i tell them what to do, have them do it, then discuss where they missed the mark. That differs greatly from how things go for modelers working alone at their own pace.
So it's a tough thing to discuss when it comes to what we do. I agree with Mike that it's handled poorly online. When you mix professional competitive types in to a hobby things get ugly. I actually don't bring my work home so to speak, and tend to have a more wide eyed positive tone when it comes to modeling.
