Global Scale Modeller

Hi you guys.
It has been a while since i did visit the forum. I have been way too active on facebook (not only the ism-group) so now i have deleted Facebook from my phone and should try to get more active here.

I have two projects going on, wittman StuG III barbarossa and now this, a "what if" King Tiger.
What if germany did a succesfull siege and occuping moscow or they had won the battle of stalingrad?
What if operation overlord had been a disaster or the ardennes offense had been a succes?

Now.. i know the war would have turned to the allies favor sometime and that is what a was thinking with this build.

Late fall or winter 1947 the nazi-germany is pushed back on all fronts and this King tiger has seen alot of battles since it was build in -45. Due the lack of materials the crew did what they could to keep the machine up and running. Paint was not of highest priorary and spare parts was hard to find.

Keep that in mind while follow this topic. This is a imaginary build and nothing else.
I try to think of things that could have looked like ww2 -47. I am going to add some extra armour plates, damages etc.
Camouflage nets... has anyone experiens of making your own? Or have any other fun ideas please tell me.
Im in the middle of the building and I can still do alot of changes.


This is the kit. I did start this earlier this year but then i was thinking -45.


How it looks now. I have removed the front fenders and added spare tracks on the turret. But i think i might change the spare tracks to metal plates instead.
And i want too add camouflage nets but i dont now if there is a good way to make your own.

I like the idea of a "what if" Panzer, i will follow your build, as i am trying to do the same with a Panther ausf. G.
And after seeing your camouflage nets, try it myself.

Yeah this could be a fun build. My other project "stug iii" did not turned out the way i wanted. It is hard to build a real tank so this build will be more relaxed i think.
And the nets... i have found a piece of wood (20x20cm" witch i will have nails all around and try to make a net. I will use comon thread or copperwire. I have not decided yet.

Yeah it is a big one. Nothing i would like to have pointed to my head.

For a couple of days now i have been doing some changes and scratch builds.
All fenders are gone and a few tools have been removed. I have made metalplates for the turret and looked over the whole what i can do more. I have ALOT of unused panzer IV tracks that i think i will use for somthing.

I did start up late last night and the tiger is getting ready for primer. But not yet.
I try to take it slow so i wont regret anything. I have been focusing on the details, tools and scratchbuilds. The extra plates for the turret are done but i have not glued it yet, it might be better to paint them seperately.
I have removed some more tools, replaced one cable and did removed the other one.
There are some places i need to be filled with putty witch i did began with yesterday.

Stuff that are left to do:
*Find camouflage nets (i did hear you can use bandages)
*Add more details such as spare tracks (tiger and maybe panzer IV tracks) and maybe some fueldrums. But that might be missleading, i want it to look like there was a huge lack of suplies.
*Fill gaps and correct things with putty.

That looks really interesting! Do you have a topic i can follow the progress on that?
I think i will use the old fashion hairspray technic.

Today i did the last small thing to the tiger (i think).



I thought it would look nice with a fueldrum so i did some ropes out of copperwire and put the drum on the side. Mr surfacer came in handy here to as i want it to look old. I will do alot of chipping here.






Some battledamages was added aswell. I did use a soldering iron to make them.
No damages was added to the turret itself. It will be painted red to give it a look of it being changed for not long ago.


So now it all set up for painting tomorrow apart from the tracks that i have not assemble yet.

Mayby usable, but the idea of bandages is also a good one.
Like it a lot sofar.

I think its a great idea and very interesting, will follow.

For nets, as other said, use the bandage - there are different ones, some dense some not so much. That would be my go to. I once used them on an Abrams but since took them off. They looked great though. Also I suggest looking into other types of fabric that could mimic camo. I think heavily camoflaged tanks are most interesting to look at and most menacing.

I have done some more work on some details that will be covered with rust but after struggeling with my airbrush for hours last weekend the progress is going slow.
I will postat more pictures when there is something more to show.

And for camouflage nets, i will use bandages. I just have to find a good one.

Nice progress buddy, can't wait to see her painted and weathered!!

So... it has gone a couple of weeks without doing anything to my tiger. I try to get some inspiration but it seems hard to find now.

But i thought i would post the progress i did before the struggle with my airbrush.



Preshading with gray, white and black.


Basecolor on. I used vallejo air hull red, it did turn out too dark for my taste so i had to add some white to it and give it another layer.
When i thought it had the right color i started masking around the metalplates and the fueldrum to give it a rusta base with my airbrush.

This is where all my inspiration disappeared. As i painted the rusty parts, my airbrushed gave me i really hard time and i spended a whole evening tried to get it clean.
Well... I hope i want get back to building soon.

Get some of the "el-cheapo" gauze rolls.............they are loose enough weave they should look good in 1:35 scale.
Might (??) even be able to dye them using strong tea??
