GBs for 2016 - Make your Choices - POLL...

Post by Lee »

As with last year, you guys will decide what our three main ISM GBs will be next year. You can make three votes and can change your votes anytime up until the poll ends - Make sure you use all three votes. It's entirely up to you what you choose. If you want to leave some comments and your reasoning then you're quite welcome to....

The poll will run for 14 days until midnight GMT on 1st December 2015.

From Russia With Love - Any Russian military Vehicle, AFV or Aircraft from any era and used in any arena.

I Heart Tamiya - Build any kit OOB (Out Of the Box) from Tamiya. Absolutely ANY kit .

Watch, Play, Build - Movies & Games. Build anything or any diorama from any film or video game.

Speed Kings - Any racing vehicle such as F1, Rally, Formula Ford/Porsche, Le Mans, Moto GP etc etc

Twice the Rotation - Any twin engined propeller aircraft, military or civilian.

Pacific Ocean Theatre - WWII Pacific Arena (Pacific War). Any Allied or Axis aircraft/AFV/Vehicle used.

Really looking forward to the results :th:

Come on, people. We had a Japan group build THIS YEAR. Does no one want to try something new? :(

It's a shame no one is interested in Watch, Play, Build or Twice The Rotation SiGs
Building something Russian is always nice but a Tamiya SiG? Personally I despise Tamiya (especially out of the box).
And the Pacific one is rather bland.
This is all my opinions mind you. At least I'll build something Russian.

I went for speed kings and twice the rotation, only built one car before and never done a twin prop plane before. Then went with the tamiya, only cos I like them, and I knew the Russian one would win by a mile, lol!

I'd love to build one of these LVT's (or maybe a DUKW) in 2016, which is why I'm a fan of the Pacific GB.
Either way, looks like some interesting choices for 2016 :th:

Troy,
I have not built one yet, but a Pacific GB would be the perfect opportunity to get one built :thumb2: And your right, as an added bonus it would be painted a really cool color!

I have to throw in a sales pitch on this category. Any movie - okay mad max, Star Wars, star trick, space 1999, hell how about tora tora tora for all you pacific theatre builds, war hammer figures, comic Heros etc... Race car movies - if we can get this as a build - think of it, almost no limit to what you can do and it will open that model door to others who build non military stuff - okay that's my 2 cents worth.

Absolutely bud :thumb2: :thumb2:.
Fury, Saving Private Ryan (or Ryan's Privates), Red October, Apollo 13, Lemans,Grand Prix....the list of potential builds is enormous and it opens options up to everyone over an enormously wide range of subjects
You can make any pacific theatre kit you have based on movies produced, there are 134 such movies listed on a Google search

i watched a Formula movie about these two rivals - there are motorcycle races, the Munster House is even out there. And there is no limit to war movies out there for Military types.

This can rock - so much cool stuff.

I didn't know you could change your votes
But after the previous comments i think that the movies etc build could be more intresting so i changed to that aswell
It will probably still be something i usually do but now something from the big screen

I don't think the POT heads get it Troy, I switched my vote once I figured it out
Let's see.....PT109 movie, Baa Baa Blacksheep tv series, GuadalCanal, Midway, Sands of Iwo Jima, December 7th....I can easily see kits come out of those movies from planes to tanks to battleships
Any pacific theatre kit can be built in the movie category, but if you only vote POT no chance to do anything else

Guess the problem with the Tamiya build is they aren't the ones who make the War of the Worlds alien tripod monster thing.

Hey one good thing though they are so easy to put together that there is no limit to how much you can drink when building this brand - it's impossible to screw up.

I don't build cars and I don't see a lot of car modelers, even on this forum it looks like everyone builds military stuff but there's nothing wrong with that. I just thing we should all try something new, right? So for the sake of new things I will vote Speed Kings, perhaps I will get out of my comfort zone and build a car. I kinda like the look of some old Chevy Cars.

I did vote for the Pacific theater and Watch, play, build.

Come on man, change that POT vote to SPEED KINGS !!!!!
We had a big long thread with a bunch of guys wanting to do auto stuff and now.....pffftttttt
Speed kings is losing by a mile now
You can still do all the pacific stuff in the movie category, but we can't do any race cars in anything other than speed kings
I think we should leave people to vote for what they want to rather than trying to force the votes, its all well and good getting a sig or gb thats different, but the last time we did a civilian vehicle gb only 10 people finished, same for a lot of the other gb's and sigs that are out of the norm.

Im sorry what? When have i come up with an excuse, I'm just hoping the chosen gb's and sigs get enough people taking part, its ok saying you will do a sig or gb but when it comes to it how many people will actually do it. Im sure when the last car gb was chosen there was a lot of votes too. Let people choose what they want to build and not force them to change their votes.

EDIT: Ah yes i thought i remembered your name, you were the guy crying about the last sig ideas and then trying to enter a james bond car into a recon sig, i guess no matter what we do unless it suits you, you will always have a moan :hi:

I don't think you get how it works. It's the membership of the forum that decides what is going to be built not Lee or Paul. The car build is up there for people to vote for if they want; as it happens at the moment people would rather build other options. It's how the democracy thing works.

I could understand trying to enter a Bond car in to a spy GB but not a recon one each to their own I suppose

Hello Tomtom12; I hope this reply finds you doing well! I just wanted to post real quick, as it seems that you were a little frustrated by reading your quote from above. I too have noted that there doesn't seem to be as many options for car GBs and SIGs as there are for military subjects, but I think that there are a fair amount of options in the votes for Gbs/SIGs this year.

In the Group Builds: Obviously the "Speed Kings" fits the car criteria perfectly. Outside of this, I see two other suggestions that can fit a car quite nicely. I believe that the "I Heart Tamiya" could offer a chance for car kits to be built (with obvious restrictions to Tamiya and OOB). Also, the "Watch, Play, Build" could offer a car builder an opportunity to build things as well (with the restrictions that the vehicle be from a movie, video game, etc.). With those three options, there are 3 out of the 6 potential GBs that can include cars! It doesn't take much thought to see these possibilities, so I am unsure what the source of your frustration may be here?

Even in the SIG builds, there are two potential categories for building cars: "The Road Warrior" and "Planes, Trains, and Automobiles" (with their own restrictions). So even there, 2 out of the 8 options present car builders with opportunities. With 50% of the GBs and 25% of the SIGs offering a chance at car builds, I am really trying to understand your concerns?

Keeping these things in mind, it really comes down to what receives votes. Reading Paul's reply that people should be left to vote for what they want to build, and not be asked to vote for something that someone else wants to build is a proper suggestion. No one should ask you to change your votes away from what you desire to build should they? I don't think that is coming up with an excuse. I also do not see Lee or Paul making an excuse when they comment about the lack of participation in previous GBs and SIGs of this type (they are simply observing what has happened in the past).

It should also be noted that, should a particular theme not receive enough votes to be a sponsored GB/SIG, we as members are encouraged to come up with our own! So in the end, if those voting for a car themed GB/SIG wish to, they can always create their own.

Lee and Paul do not make excuses, and in fact, give all members an equal voice as it were in selecting what the themes may be, and then allowing members to vote on the most popular suggestions. It is the members that determine the year's sponsored builds; one can ask for nothing more than this.

I believe that your signature puts this topic in focus the best: "You can't fix stupid but you can vote it out." You can't fix a GB/SIG, but you can vote it in or out! I hope that you find some GBs/SIGs to participate in during 2016!

I play far too many games far too often to not want to do WPB. If anything I'd be vaguely heartbroken if it doesn't get in, there's just such a broad range of subject matter I can't really see how there isn't something for everyone so I'm kinda disappointed at where the votes are at the moment. Lately I've been spending waaay too much time in Fallout 4 and not enough on models so it'd be nice to somehow combine the two.
And if contraprops count for the TWR option I've got an Airfix 1/48 Seafire 47 waiting to be built some time.
Quick question about Speed Kings, are we only including cars or do aircraft/boats/trucks/motorbikes etc count?
