SiGs for 2016 - Make your choices - POLL...

Post by Lee »

As with last year, this year you guys will decide what our four main ISM SiGs will be next year. You can make four votes and can change your votes anytime up until the poll ends - Make sure you use all four votes. It's entirely up to you what you choose. If you want to leave some comments and your reasoning then you're quite welcome to....

The poll will run for 14 days until midnight GMT on 1st December 2015.

Shiny Things - Any aircraft with a NMF (Natural Metal Finish)

E for Experimental - Any working prototype from any era (aircraft or AFV)

Heinz 161 - Any Panzer IV (inc Jagdpanzer IV, Wirbelwind SPAAG, StuG, Brummbär SPG)

Fighting Falcons - Any F-16 - The most awesome jet.

If it Floats - Any floaty thing from any period.

The Holy Land - Anything Israeli (IAI or IDF)

The Road Warrior - Mad Max/Post Apocalypse - Anything from the Mad Max films (new or old) and/or any post apocalyptic scene/diorama.

Planes, Trains & Automobiles - Civilian public/passenger transport (Airliners/Trains/ Buses & Coaches etc).

Really looking forward to the results :th:

It's appreciated more than you know :)
Due to my cultural beliefs, I refuse to build any german WWII armour or figures, and I'm still on the fence regarding the Luftwaffe. I know that's just me, but I've also met a lot of people who feel the same way - and those who won't build any IAF/IDF models (For similar, but current reasons) - to each their own - but to make a SIG or GB have ONLY Nazi options... just means a chunk of time I have to myself - just as I do now during the Heil the hunters' SIG - I just think that the topics are supposed to be vague and general enough for everyone to participate - makes it hard when the only options for a SIG/GB is Nazi tank #1, or #2.

I get your point Mikey
Personally i mainly build.German armor though
As for the Heil the hunters i feel that it would have been nicer if it was a general tank destroyer build
I still would have been doing the same as i do now but there could be more vehicles to choose from
It is just that i don't come up with the rules and when i have a kit that i can enter in a build the chance is very big it will be German
If i don't enter a build it is mostly because i don't have a kit for it wich often means that the subject hasn't got my intrest

Guys, I don't think you're getting the difference between a GB & a SiG. A GB is a group build, which can be about anything and can be a as general as you want to make it. A SiG (Special Interest Group Build) is a more focused build on a certain subject or time etc etc. :th:

I just said i liked to see the heil the hunters as a tank destroyer build in general
For me it still would end up as a German build
But like Mikey said some people don't like to build subjects from certain origin
The build is only limit to a smaller group of possible subjects then it coukd have been
I personally don't do have a problem with that ,don't me wrong but i do agree with Mikey that is some one feels he or she doesn't want to build a subject from a certain nation he doesn't get to join because of their personal beliefs or opinions

As it is nearing the festive period would a donation to a charity be able to influence the vote in any way :D My favourites in both GB and SiGs arent doing well so I'm thinking of ethical ways to cheat.

I don't feel like blaming any one mate
And i know you can't cater to everybody , you don't need to either
The most popular builds get picked so if i don't like the subject or i don't have a kit i won't enter
But some guys want a non-German build ,wich is fine in my opinion but if you want to build something you don't have to wait for a sig/gb
That is what the WIP section is for

I voted for the Panzer build as I have built a whopping two German Third Reich tanks, and one of them is that Hetzer in the Jagd Sig which I built as a Czech vehicle. Simply put, I want to build more German stuff. I have a real interest in the Panzer IV. But if this SIG gets picked or not is pointless to me - as I am going to build it anyway (Ill do it during the Shinny things, or Fighting Falcons if they are picked - god forbid - unless I can build that Back to the Future car in Shinny Things - fits the build right? Natural metal finish, and it flies?

Hey, by they way guys, I am going to the Wings Over the Rockies Air and Space Museum here in Denver later today - just a bunch of planes - so not much interest for me, but Ill will take some photos of all the stuff and post it in that Museum section later - Saber Jets, F4s, F14 all kinds of top gun stuff (and a great Brewery close by - which is why I am going there).

Sadly, I had to miss out on the "Heil the Jagd" build. If the "Heinz 161" build is going to happen, I'll build what I was planning for that.

As for my personal views on building models of "enemy" equipment. I'm an American with a German/Irish heritage and come from a long line of military veterans (including myself and my eldest son, who is serving overseas now). I also have a Great Uncle who was captured in the first days in the Battle of the Bulge and spent 5 months as an unwilling guest of the Germans (POW). By my building a WW II German subject doesn't mean that I'm celebrating the Nazi cause. I'm celebrating the men and women who had to fight against some of the best engineered war machines of their day. It's frightening to think about going against a Tiger or a ME-262. And people from around the world did it. Some making the ultimate sacrifice...

I feel that building a military subject from any conflict or era is a remembrance of sacrifice, no matter which side. Both sides suffer from lost and personal tragedy from political means... Remembrance and respect is why I love military builds... Just my humble opinion...

I just want to iterate here that I don't blame anyone and COMPLETELY understand that GBs and SIGs can't cater to everyone - such is life. It was actually nice, gave me a chance to do some 'off-forum' building - UNDOCUMENTED!! *GASP*!! :eeek:

WWII consisted of the Axis and the Allies - that's the history of it - it would be ridiculous to assume that german armour and subjects be left out, AND based on my comment - I wouldn't be surprised if there were people actually against the Holy Land subject due to their political beliefs and the situation in the Middle East between with the Palestinian and Israeli conflict - and that's what makes the world go around. It's just my reasoning for not choosing (yet another) all German subject this year - making it 2 years in a row - that's all.

Snyder, I completely agree - I don't however see myself making concentration and death camp dioramas in the near future... I mean, unless people want to see that sort of thing. I grew up being shown these awful photos on a daily basis - sad to say, but I'm almost immune to them - I don't think the modelling community is ready to see that kind of horror depicted on the forum or in dioramas. I believe it was Hamilkar who found some holocaust-oriented dioramas at one point, though. It was pretty gruesome.

See, I see ALL German WWII military in that manner (specifically AFV and figures) - regardless if it was true or not. When I see that uniform, I instantly associate it with the Nazi flag, hitler, and genocide - plain and simple. That (twisted!!) Swastika as well (NOT THE INDIAN ORIGINAL!!) - Hitler, the head of the German Army, and a Nazi (just saying that I know not all German military were Nazis) ultimate plan was world domination AND the eradication of all Jews - it was an entire sub-plot to the entire war - so, it's impossible for me to see anything else when I see that iron cross, field grey uniform, or anything german WWII related.

By labeling the SIG a 'tank hunter' SIG, for example, people could have build either the German variant, or the Allied variant - letting people choose a side of the conflict, that's all :) Thank you Paul and Lee for giving us a place to not only build what we want, but also have these kinds of conversations... but I guess it's true, it was all Paul's fault... :nena:

I agree completely Snyder. Good post. I did twenty odd years in the mil and don't have a problem building the Soviet aircraft that would probably have killed me had the poo hit the fan. It's the poli's that make wars, not the poor buggers on all sides who have to go and fight them. It's all about remembrance and keeping history alive.
Regards, Dave.

MikeyKb, I totally respect your views 1000%. As I'm sure all on this forum do. No other conflict that had more suffering or controversy than WW II. Personally, I can't fathom how humans can just wholesale slaughter each other.

I was just stating my point of view and I hope that my post didn't offend you. That was truly not my intention. And if it did, I sincerely apologize...

Thank you Avgas!!!

I too served during the Cold War, working on the USAF aircraft that would have taken the fight to Russian soil. They may have had nothing to come back too, if the poo hit the fan though... Thankfully, it never came to that...

I take it the 'If it floats' includes seaplanes and subs? Subs tend to do more sinking than floating.

Know I'm new here, but I second this. We all seem to build the same planes and tanks year after year. I urge everyone to vote for builds that stretch their horizons so we can see what everyone is capable of.

It doesn't have to all German if you are thinking of the Heinz build
I can't change the fact that the vehicle itself was designed and build in Germany but you can think outside the box with the idea
During WWII a substancial amount of German armor fell into the hands of the Allies on both fronts
Some where sent off for research but a few where actually put into service
The Allies (US and GB) didn't do this on a regular basis but the Soviets did
So you could do a "under new management" build
And once the war was over the Soviets (who had the most German armor) started selling them to other nations
Think of the Hetzers , StuG III and IV's and even sd.kfz.251's that found their way to Syria
Only to be destroyed by the Israeli's later on

So you see it doesn't have to be as restricted to being German as you would think at first
It is good that you guys are trying to get others out of their comfort zone though
But that is just my thought ofcourse
