Dragon DS tracks - What glues and paints to use?

Post by OliveDrab »

For those experienced with the Dragon DS tracks...
What are the the best glues and paints to use on the Dragon DS tracks? Are there any other "tricks" to using them?
I have not used them before, but am considering using them on a recently started build.

Regular glues and regular paints. I've had no problems with Tamiya Extra Thin and Tamiya paints.

Ds is short for dragon styrene so anything you would normally use on a model works fine.
John, whats on my bench? Usually a mess and a couple of different models a week.
My motto? I'm not lazy, just energy efficient.

Hi,

i have had a bit of experience with these. Best to use super glue - any type is ok. You need an instant bond. Thin the paint you use.
If you are modelling a German tank with hollow guide horns there is a tendency for these to clog/fill - if the paint is too thick.

With regards to the tracks themselves the later formula DS styrene is too flexible - thats why a lot of modellers now use aftermarket tracks.

If you are using them for a DAK Tiger - I would suggest you DON'T - if you want to spend extra on the model then buy a set modelkasten or fruimodel tracks. Also I believe Rye Field Model are selling their DAK Tiger tracks separately.

I hope this helps.

Regards,
Richardt

Thanks for the tips! Yep, I'm building the Tamiya DAK Tiger I, and have a set of AFV Club tracks which could be used, but was looking to save some time by using a set of the DS tracks pulled from the Dragon orange box early Tiger sitting in the stash.
(Awesome Tiger collection you have going by the way :th: :th: :th: )

cheers mate - i use DS to save time also - but the later styrene formula is too flexible and they get damaged easily - on the other hand aftermarket tracks are really time consuming but look great. Cheers Richard
