Guidelines & Rules

Post by Lee »

What is a Group Build (GB)?

A group build is where everyone on the forum (who wants to participate) gets together and picks a mutual subject to model. It will usually run over an agreed span of time (every 4 months for ISM). Everyone who's entered posts up their progress (in pictures) as they build the model with a final reveal and showcase at the end. There are usually a specific set of loose rules to say if it's got to be OOB (Out Of the Box) or you can add extras such as PE (Photo-Etch), after market resin parts or decals etc. There's never a rush and we will allow enough time to participate in the GB and do all your usual modelling at the same time.

There will be 1st, 2nd & 3rd prizes kindly sponsored by MJR Models & Hobbies for every GB. I'd like to take this opportunity to personally thank John & Mandy at Models R Go for their continued support, it's greatly appreciated. Please go and check their website out by clicking the banner below, their customer service is second to none.

Because at ISM our ethos is that it doesn't matter what you build or how it turns out, as long as you enjoyed the journey, the way who gets the prizes is determined is going to be totally different to every other modelling website! It's not going to be just the prettiest or best built model that wins or places, the prizes will go to the best overall build thread. This means the more back story to your model you post, the more updates (with pictures) you post, the better the explanation of your techniques to achieve the end result (inc your youtube vids) you post, the better chance you will have of getting placed for a prize. Basically what this means is that the more you share your information, the better the benefit to the modelling community, which in turn benefits everyone of us. So, it doesn't matter if you're all thumbs, just started modelling last week, or can't achieve an exact replica of the subject you're building, we want to see that you've enjoyed the journey to the end result, no matter how it's turned out and most importantly, that you've had FUN getting there.....

Group builds are great fun and gets everyone working together towards the same goal and helps to get modellers out of their usual comfort zone and try something else whilst sharing their tips & techniques with the whole community. If you've never entered one before, don't be shy and have a go, we'd love to see your work.... :D

Is it okay if we put our buildthreads on here
Well i mean in the builds section ofcourse but as i have to wait with a current build i thought it would be a good time to make a update for that and start the buildthreads for next years builds (just the intro and sprue shots)
On the bench

Personal builds

Hi! I'd like to participate in the "From Russia with love" GB. I've got a kit in my stash I haven't touched since I bought it back in 2009. Of course I opened the box and the bags, but that's it. Would that be okay? Greetings from FOGGY Konstanz (Lake Constance). Jens

the rules state that the kit must be in a unstarted condition
parts that broke of the sprue during transport are a exception as you can't do nothing about that
so if you make photo's of the sprues wich serve as proof that the kit is not started you should be fine

I'm really looking forwards to this "From Russia with love" build, Those who know me will know I have been away from model making for around 25+ years and have been concentrating on Tamiya 1:12 motorbikes since I started back to medelling 5 months ago, I havent built a tank or AFV for over 30 years and I have got myself a new airbrush and santa said she will get me the compressor, so hopefully on xmas I'll be ready to go.

I have been watching numerous how to videos by Paul and Coen on YouTube on how to do weathering effects, something I have never tried before in my puff and have a cheap tamiya Panther tank kit to start on xmas to practise my techniques on.

So in my stash (for this build) atm I have -

1 x TRUMPETER 1/35 RUSSIAN BM-21 GRAD LATE VERSION

Image

1 x TAMIYA 35257 Soviet Tank T 55 1:35

Image

and a couple of kits that should be with me before the new year -

1 x Trumpeter 01521 LAV-A2 Light Armoured Vehicle 1/35 scale

Image

1 x Trumpeter 00372 USMC LAV-AT 1/35 scale

Image

hmm so what one to enter for something different and how many can I build in 4 months considering I am not currently working (due to ill health) and have plenty modelling time?

fun fun fun

regards

Terry

Hi, guys! I've taken pictures of the kits I'd like to build for the "From Russia With Love" GB. How and where do I have to post them? I know I'm late - as usual! And who can help me with a problem concerning the main kit I plan to do? Happy New Year to everyone! Take care, be good and be save! Jens :cheers2:

Thanks a lot, Schoof, but WHERE do I find "photobucket"? Maybe I'm blind (or most probably, ahem). And to WHOM do I send the pictures? I need somebody who can decide, if my kit is possibly disqualified.

And here is problem #2: I was about to start building the "Katiusha" before I heard of the GB and the only part I touched was the grille. Therefore the kit isn't in "unstarted condition" and if you disqualify it, it's alright. It can't be helped, but I wanted to be honest about this. The three figure sets are all new and the bags aren't opened yet.

I guess "new thread" is "new topic"? Okay, will do. The site wasn't accessible yesterday evening. That's the reason for my tardy reply. You can delete my posts then, Lee. Could you tell me, if I can participate the way I planned it, please. As I wrote earlier: No problem, if I can't. Bye and be good. Jens

Would something built in a different country specifically for the russians to use under lend/lease be allowed, have a red army valentine mk. Iv? It is a miniart kit so technically a former soviet state!
John, whats on my bench? Usually a mess and a couple of different models a week.

NonProlificModeler wrote:And here is problem #2: I was about to start building the "Katiusha" before I heard of the GB and the only part I touched was the grille. Therefore the kit isn't in "unstarted condition" and if you disqualify it, it's alright. It can't be helped, but I wanted to be honest about this. The three figure sets are all new and the bags aren't opened yet.
