Lee's Eduard 1/48 Ltd Edition Top Falcons F-16

Post by Lee »

Been wanting to build this since I bought it three years ago. Really looking forward to getting stuck into this. A rebox of the Kinetic F-16 with lots of Eduard additives, should really build up to a nice looking bird...

Got a bit done last night on the hangout....

First off, looking at this, you can see how much of the original kit is replaced with all the after market goodies in the box. Everything in blue is now redundant!

Image

There's a little excess spue to take down first....lol
Image

All done...

Image

Turbine and wheel well ready...
Image

Image

Tub ready for paint then PE...
Image

Have to fill these bits in as not present on the version I'm building...

Image

Quite a bit of filler required on this though. Just little bits here and there :)

Image

Image

Image

All sprayed up ready to take the PE...

Image

Won't get any done tonight as I'm going to get sloshed :th:

I was trying to imply to Mark, with a large dollop of sarcasm, that the Eduard kit is better as his 'was' a Revell kit. I stated was, not is. This would imply that his is the 'was' (past tense) as he made his in the past, which would mean that I would have written 'is' (present tense) if I were referring to mine, which I'm currently working on....

Simple really.... :th:

Cockpit done apart from side walls and dull coat, which are next - I'm counting on those EPMs not being visible once the ejector seat is in..... :th:

I've been waiting for you to build this, also since you reviewed it (and I haven't held my breath  ), I've got the NATO Falcon's kit in the stash so very interested in seeing the build come together.

That is a nice office and it will be very visible with the canopy on, even if you have canopy closed.

cheers

I have this kit in the stash as well if I recall. Not going to be entering the F16 SiG though as my current situation with painting etc. doesn't work well for aircraft, too much back and forth airbrushing needed in the initial stages of the build.

The build looks good so far, and I will use this thread as a reference when I do get round to mine, so please make sure you do note any difficulties/tips for this build!

I don't know if all the kits are the same, but I have quite a fair bit of warpage here and there. Things like ailerons have to be held flat with pegs etc. Quite a bit of gap filling, but no big dramas just lots of Vallejo and cottons buds. I'll do a post build review of it when it's done :th:

Got ailerons on few other odds and sods. A bit more fine filling here and there and some more clampage for the base of the tail. Yet another differnt colour sprue! That makes 5 different colours now due to kit upgrades over time...lol

Image

Also, in my slightly inebriated state, I cut too much of the undercarriage and snipped off the wheel joints in their entirety! Quick fix though, took the stubs off a spare bit of sprue for an old spit I had in the spares box. Not the same size, but I will fill the centre hole in the wheel hub and drill out a smaller hole so this should mate up fine...

A little resin work this morning before going out, for a drink of course!

Here's my resin regime....

Face mask on, gloves on and work over damp kitchen roll (I dampen mine with Ultimate thinner, just because). Once finished I then dampen another bit of kitchen roll with Ultimate thinner to clean all the dust off. I use Ultimate thinner because it acts as a cleaning agent and cleans the resin ready for paint at the same time. I then mop up my bench with another bit of kitchen roll dampened with, you guessed it, Ultimate thinner.....

Exhaust and resin all done...

Mostly odds and sods tonight, but finished the exhaust....

Sprayed ceramic white first then taped up....

Smattering of Tamiya XF19, there was more, but lost the pic somehow!

Finished article. There are three distinct alclad colours there, but the camera has equalised them so they all look the same and the inside of the nozzle is nowhere near as stark as it looks in the pictures! Will try to get better pics when finished....

Start work on the ejector seat tomorrow - Only 52 pieces of separate PE to fix to it... :bash:
