Eduard IL2 Shturmovik 1/48

Post by waynos »

Hi,

For this build I will be making the Eduard 1/48 IL2. It is the accuarte minatures plastic with the usual Eduard PE cockpit and masks.

I am unsure of which scheme to go for yet, but will decide soon. This is one of my favourite russian aircraft and I will be trying to make my first dio with this build if time allows.

Now for some box shots:

I will get some out of bag sprue shots when I officially start building.

Looking forward to this one!

So with the return back to teaching this week, progress has been a bit slow on this build. :wall:

I have been really impressed with the detail of this kit and how well it fits together. There was one error in the instructions where the part number is incorrect, so if building this kit, keep an eye out for it.

Here are the sprue shots and build progress so far. Just got to wait for my akan paint set to arrive for this.

Wayno, I am building the original AM single seater which looks to be the mostly the same plastic, so I am following your lead. Nice work so far.

So after much waiting, I opted for the Hataka Early Soviet colours from emodels. Service was fantastic as always!

So after much research it was unclear as to what the true internal colour of the cockpit section was so I used the blue grey that came in the Hataka set.

I also added the zoom set that came with the Eduard kit which really adds to the detail. Now it is all glued I will give it a clear cote followed by an oil wash and black wash.

So here it is in its current stage:

So I have added a bit of an oil wash to the cockpit and buttoned it up. There are a few gaps that need filling, but nothing major.

Next step will be base coat and she is ready for paint!

Very impressive so far, looks like a very nice kit. I want a Eduard so bad....

Thanks Sturm. :th:

This kit is actually a rebox of the accurate minatures kit. It goes together well with minimal filling here and there.

So, onto the kit. I got home from work tonight and whilst waiting for tea to cook I laid down some stylnrez primer. I just cant get over how good this primer is in comparison to the vellajo. Goes down much smoother!

So after the busy mock exam season at work and the ski trip to Austria, :violin: I have finally managed to get back to the desk and make some progress with the IL2.

My Hataka il2 colours arrived so I was able to start laying down some colour. Unfortunately I forgot to take photographs after painting the base so the one you see here is just after spraying the green. :wall:

Next up after this is masking off the green ans spraying the black. I am going to opt for the two tone black and green scheme.

Let me know what you think.

Cheers Always!

So masked up using Tamiya wavy tape for the first time. Great stuff but I need to press the edges down harder as some of the black has seeped through. A few touch ups needed but happy with the colours.

So today I sat and added the decals. Very few in comparison to some kits I have built recently! I opted for scheme B for the aircraft piloted by V.B. Yemelyanienkho. It was part of the 7.GvShAP Guard Attack Aviation Regiment that belonged to 230.ShAD Attack Air Devision in the summer of 1943.
V.B. Yemelyanienkho was awarded the Gold Star of Hero of the Soviet Union.

So this is how she looks now. Next step is adding the detailing and then weathering.

So I have added couple of the excellent Ultimate washes before the final parts are added.

I started with a panel line wash of Ultimate concrete on the upper surfaces to highlight some of the detail within the black. I did a Ultimate dark dirt wash underneath.

It has turned out quite well but doing the panel line wash on the upper surfaces didnt give me the result I was looking for so I washed over the surfaces completely with the concrete and it worked much better. Kind of gives it that look of a winter white wash that hasn't quite fully faded away.

I will try and get some more photos in a more natural light of the underside.

So added the cannons and propeller to the IL2 to at modelling and gaming club I help run at the school I work at.

Next up are the wheels and ordanance and she will soon be finished.

Rodrant, I have no idea how the range marks work. I tried to do some research but no joy. Maybe someone else can help amswer that for us!

Anyways, here she is as she stands:

So bombs and rockets are now attached!

Just the wheels to add onto the landing gear and final detail painting of the exhausts and smoke stains and it will be done. Means I can get back to the f-16 which has become a bit of a shelf queen at the minute!
