I have had a decal Disaster, (all bubbled up). I applied Vallejo Medium solution to it and left it to dry. I think I have gone wrong, should I have applied Vallejo fix first then the Medium solution. The decal is beyond saving, had to order a new set. I would be great full for any advice.

Yeah that is the right order in which to use those - first the medium, apply decal, dry up excess water, put the fix over that and let it sit untouched for a while. Should work, maybe the decals have gone bad, tried one on a spare piece without any decal-solutions?

Thanks for the advice, had to get another set from ebay, went down fine, especially they must have been 30 years old. Paul, Microscale sounds good next time.

Nice to hear that it's sorted. Decals don't stand the test of time very good

Don't microscale do a decal repair solution..... it fixes the clear film I believe.

I've used that and Testors spray on old decals. The first time I needed the stuff, the decal completely disintigrated. After using the spray, it worked like a new decal. It will involve you having to be more studious in trimming, but I'd try this method before trying to replace a decal sheet.

When using pre-historic decals like you have it might be worth investing a couple of pounds in a bottle of micoscale liquide decal film as well. That will strengthen the decal and hopefully stop it from cracking and clumping together.

I also have the Vallejo decal solutions in the array of modeling goodies. What I really liked was that the Vallejo Medium was basically a: gloss varnish and decal water (distilled water and white vinegar) mix. Found this out by accident as I left some to dry in a place on a mat surface one day. I now use it on my diorama accessories only instead of clear coating the hole thing if I need to place a decal on lets say an ammo can.

The decal fix stuff that Vallejo sell is a pre-diluted mat varnish nothing more nothing less.

To get your decals to conform to your model use Set and Sol for the compliant decals and Solvaset for the thick wallpaper type of decals.
