What's the best way to paint the invasion stripes

Post by GuyMac »

I'm building a 1/48 Spitfire to which I like to add invasion stripes.
What's the best (easiest) way to paint them? When should they be added during the painting sequense?
I tried it on a 1/72 scale one but that didn't turn out as expected.
What size should they be, etc...
I'm a fairy noob in building models. Started at 14 yrs old until 21 then stopped for like 25 years and since the kids are grown now and don't wanna play with my models anymore, I've picked up the hobby again.
Compared with the things I saw here, my results are ... oh well, let's say not worth showing :-)

As for the how to
i would paint the plane as usual (camo colors)
the stripes goover that layer
so i would mask the entire area where they need to go and spray that white
once that has enough time to fully dry i would mask the white stripes and spray the black ones
as for the sizes you should have a look here
it covers the sizes for various types of planes and in different scales aswell

i hope this helps
cheers

Your reply helped me a lot. Gonna try this.
The post you refer to is also exactly what I need. Maybe I should have used the search function a bit more to find that.

Thank you

The search function may take a while
if the word comes up in a post it puts it in the search list so that could have been a long list to go through
most of the time someone will know the awnser if you ask it
Even when there is no thread for it on here
But i'm glad i could help
good luck

I saw on a forum that the Tamiya masking tapes are ok for for the different scales. Meaning the 6mm is ok for 1:72, the 10mm for the 1:48 and the 18mm for the 1:32. Maybe that can help to get some decent proportions...

Surely makes it a lot easier to get masked. Might give it a try.
Thank you both for the helpful replies
