Painting undercarriage panels and decals

Post by Kgbow »

Hey guys,

So I've just finished a Mustang P-51. The paint job I went for includes the D-Day black and white stripes. I wanted to have the aircraft stationary with the landing gear lowered. I was curious as to how you go about painting the undercarriage covers/panels? Also, what do I do if the decal if supposed to cover part of the undercarriage panels/covers.... am I making sense? hahaha

Any help would be greatly appreciated
Cheers

I'm no expert, but thinking about it, I would "blu-tack" the wheel covers in the closed position, apply the decals (and cut carefully) or paint (whichever) and then get the wheels and covers fitted together and then to the model.

I haven't come across this problem before, though - so listen to me at your peril :-P

Yep blue or white tacks the way to go but wait until the decals have dried at least over night before you cut them and use a really sharp blade.

It's also the way to go if you decide to paint the invasion stripes.

Hope that helps

Yes, that's how I would go about it. And use a brand new surgical blade to carefully cut the decals. The last thing you want is a decal that looks ripped instead of cut.
