Broken Antennae

Post by Joe »

Lads,

I just completed my Airfix 1/72 P-51 Tuskegee model only two days before when the antennae snapped. To be honest, this model only cost $6.38 and the small parts are badly manufactured (so I guess I shouldn't expect much, right?) but I put so much time into painting and weathering and now this snapped antennae is an eyesore! I'm thinking a dab of super glue (or CA glue) just might fix it but then I'm sure that would be noticeable.

I'm hoping to present this model at my next IPMS meeting early next month so any advise would be welcome.

PS. I have heard of "scratch building" but I don't know what that is. Any thoughts?

Thanks! As always, you guys are a tremendous help!

My take on scratchbuilding is you build a part/model from scratch, ie few if any 'recognized' parts/moldings, or parts from one model to use as something else. (panzer turrets on the Death Star IIRC as an exemplar). As for the whole antenna thing, if it is a stick antenna, I'd suggest using stretched sprue maybe. If it's a loop antenna (I have no clue which types were on a Mustang just to clear that up), you might have to raid your parts box.

I hope this helps.
