Help with micro sol/set

Post by wolfsbane666 »

I have just come to the decal application stage of my first build and was wondering what is the best use of the setting solutions. Being an avid fan of Pauls videos I know he puts a couple of drops in the water then adds a drop of the solution once the decal is applied but I seem to remember him advocating a different method in a newer video but I can't find it now. Does anyone have any ideas for the most affective way of applying decals. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

It is as you describe. A few drops from the blue bottle in the water then use a brush to apply the fluid from the red bottle once the decal is down. If the surface is particularly uneven, repeated applications from the red bottle may be required. Whatever you do, don't touch it once the red bottle fluid has been applied.

Hope this helps.
Its been tried and tested, it works! So don't blame the system if you're no good.

A wise man taught me that Tamiya X20 on top of a non settling decal settles it down nicely.
Found that it works well, I don't need another product and that I don't have to re-read what sol and what set does again and again
Just saying

The guy asked a specific question and I answered him based on what works for me. I figured that's what this section is for.

As for using thinners as a decal softener, that's a new one on me!

You can use X20A, but you have to be careful, it's strong stuff and you can ruin your decal/paintwork in seconds if not done correctly.

Micro Sol/Set is a great little solution. I always put a little Set (more than a few drops) in the water and then brush over with Sol once I've squeegeed all the water out :th:

Although, I've just got some Walthers Solvaset on a recommend from a few people and plan on trying this on my next decal session :)
Where does all the bloody time go.....?

Nowhere on the bottle of Micro set does it say to add to the water so how did this become common practice?

Surely if it made any difference the company making the product would know and instruct accordingly?

Ok ladies lets put the handbags away.

I use micro set, then sol then solvaset and all my decals lay down great. I stopped putting the set in the water ages ago in favour of brushing it where the decal will be going.

Not what I meant and my comment about using thinners was genuine, not disparaging. It is a new one on me. If it works for you then great.

As Paul says, hand bag well and truly stowed :th:

Cool, something new learned. I'll try that myself, next set of decals.

Thanks very much everyone I am sorry for the newbie questions but the build has gone well so far and I wanted to make sure I was doing the best thing. I think I will avoid the thinners for the moment, being so green, but I will store the info away for later use.
