Eduard 1:72 Mig-15 Royal class

Post by MarkVerploeg »

Hi giys
this will be the build thread for my Mig-15's from the Eduard Royal class kit
i will be putting the progress for 3 out of the 4 kits in the box
the last one is a entry in the From Russia with love group build and has it's own build thread

Here is what you find in the box
Image
the box

Image
a look inside

Image
Image
fuselage sprue for the normal Mig-15
the only real difference between this and the Bis version is the shape of the airbrakes

Image
Image
the fuselage sprue for the Bis version
You get 2 full kit for the Bis and 1 for the early version
besides those there is a UTI 2 seat trainer
that is the one i will be building for the gb

Image
the interior parts sprue

Image
the wings sprue

Image
the clear parts

Image
photo etch parts and the included resin parts for 2 ejection seats and the integrated fuel tanks for the wings
there are drop tanks but those are styrene parts

Image
the decals for a total of 18 version

Image
the other goodies from the box
a glass with a Mig-15 logo and a stand with a small piece of real Mig-15 with a certificate wich explains that the piece comes from a old Czech Mig
it is a bit thicker then i would expect (roughly 3mm)

Image
i will paint the early version like this

Image
because the UTI and the Early version will be bare metal finish planes
so the Bis versions will be camouflaged planes
both where in service with the North Koreans

And this is the other
Image
this actual plane was flown by a Soviet/Russian pilot but was in use of the North Korean airforce and flown from places like China

So that is all i have for now
i will start building right away and hope to have enough to post a update very soon
thanks for stopping by and having a look
Cheers , Mark

Hi guys
so time for a little update
i finiahed building and painting the cockpits for this build
they are now ready for a coat of varnish and some washes to bring the details a bit better

Image
i build up the parts for each plane up to this point
there are not that many parts to it
after this i primed and painted them

Image
the small block for the landing gear was glued to the bottom of the cockpit

Image
because i need to paint the inside of the fuselage (airducts) i prepped the fuselage halfs aswell
they have no locating pins but they seem to line up very good and should fit just fine

Image
all parts ready for some paint

Image
a quick testfit of the cockpit

Image
the cockpits where painted with aqueous H308

Image
the ouside of the cockpits and insides of the fuselage where painted with Alclad white aluminium
the engine is painted with regular aluminium from Alclad

Image
the seats where finished by adding the pe seatbelts

Image
the sides have some pe aswell

At the moment they are ready for some varnish or aqua gloss and then a wash
i don't think i will do much more then that as the cocpits are rather small and you won't see much when they are put together
but it still needs some work to make them look a bit worn

So that is all i have for now
i hope to have the cockpits done soon so i can put the rest of the planes together and paint them up
thanks for stopping by and having a look
Cheers , Mark

Thanks mate
I haven't done much lately so they are gathering dust
But they are almost build up to the point of painting them
I need to figure out how i will do the painting on a part of the canopy and i have some landing gears to assemble and place
But i am building all 4 of them so it does take some time
Allthough the UTI has it's own thread in the From Russia with love gb but they are all in the same stage of the build
I was trying to finish a other build for this weekend when i go to a modelling show so that had priority on the bench but i won't be able to finish that in time so these little birds will be back on the bench next week after i finish some bases for builds that i will take to that show

Hi guys
So as i have been neglecting this threas a bit here is a big update
As you may have seen on the ISM facebook page this build along with the UTI version from this box is finished
So here is a long post with the rest of the build up to the point of finishing it

Image
After a little wash the parts where ready for the construction of the cockpit

Image
The sides where glued in place and i added some lead shot as weights

Image
Even more leads underneath the cockpit

Image
Then the fuselages where closed up
And the seams where filled

Image
Then the wings and elevators where added

Image
Then it was time for the nose piece and the landing gear

Image
And the last part of the assembly was the placing of the canopy
Then they where primed and painted using Alclad paints and primer

Image
As you can see here 2 of them where painted with a camouflage scheme over the metal finish

Image
Image
Image
Then i glossed them and applied the decals
After the decals a second coat of Aqua gloos was sprayed on wich was followed by a wash using Mig productions dark wash
Then they where finished with a coat of varnish
I used satin on the metal surfaces and matt on the camouflaged surfaces

And that about sums it up
I will put them in the air gallery aswell where i have some different photo's of the end result

Thanks for stopping by and having a look
Untill next time
Cheers,Mark
