Would you pre-shade a 1/1000 ship model?

Just curious, the models themselves are roughly 11in/30cm and 1/1000 scale star ships (build thread in my sig). They have nice, deep detail lining already and I'm just not sure pre-shading is right for a thing that's supposed to be huge. I might try it on one and lay down a base coat or two of color just to see, but just in case anyone here has some thoughts about it, it might save me some time
