Testor's Dullcote

What thinner ratio do you use for Dullcote? I take it it's cellulose thinners that you use. Also will it keep OK in plastic bottles mixed up, the sort that Ultimate thinners and brush cleaner come in?

Dave, try a 50/50 mix with lacquer thinners, I use Mr Hobby Mr Color. I think the trick is to let your layers dry off before adding more I find. I'm struggling with matte cotes at the moment. Patience is key. Regarding bottling it up, I'd be worried the thinners would evaporate out of the bottle if not sealed properly.

Just a word of caution about the plastic bottles. As I have a couple of mess's to clean up and a ruined cutting mat. Some plastic containers tend to melt with such things as turps, thinners and the like. Test first in a controlled spillage area.

I pre thin my Dullcote 50/50 with cheap DIY lacquer thinner and store it in an old alclad plastic aqua gloss bottle.
I've been doing it for about a year now and I haven't had any trouble with the bottle degrading or the cap dissolving. The thinners seem to stay where they're supposed to be as well... In the bottle.

modeling bottles from modeling products are fine....It's those you get off eBay cheap or the 2 buck shop ain't much good except for acrylics

Can't you use Dullcote straight out of the bottle?...I have some, but as yet, never used it, do you have to seal the acrylic paint before applying it?...

You can use it straight out the bottle as its made to be brushed on, to airbrush it needs think about 50/50 with cellulose thinner, i love the stuff it works great

I use the stuff cut 50/50 with Testors lacquer thinner. Airbrushes really easily and looks great! I'll spray it over Alclad Aquagloss and whatever weather effects I used. Honestly, it's the only dull coat I've used, so I don't have anything to compare it to.
