Well now. My first build post. It's been too long away from the bench, but I finally made it back. A year ago I tried to get back and all hell broke loose. Nothing I need get into. Suffice to say I left this thing literally sitting on the workbench.

Over the last couple of months I spent getting things moved out of the house and into the shed as my little slice of man cave.

I had this kit in my stash and my step son loves WW II planes so I thought I'd build it for his birthday. Well I still have time to build it for his birthday this year and I WILL complete it this time around.

Enough... here goes. I am open to critic good bad or indifferent. I am really rusty though so keep that in mind.



This is how I left it a year ago.

Here's the cockpit. Any suggestions on how to make seat belts w/o purchasing photo etc?

These older Revell molds always gave me trouble with seams and I need to get some sprue cutters. I am used to side cutters and I have a "flush cutter" but, it's not designed for sprue cutting.



Ahh yes so many gaps in the seams on this kit. I spent a long time working with these.




Oh boy almost ready for the primer. I will have some final sanding to do on the wings, but the fiddly bits are ready for the primary then some detail work. Then attaching


Now I will be doing these updates about this time each week as I can only get to the bench on the weekends as my bench is at our weekender in the mountains. I much prefer it there than down here in the city. Besides I work long hours and am too tired most nights to do much more than eat, read a little bit then hit the sack.

Anyway, I am off and running!!!!

Oh yeah almost forgot. These older models have RAISED panel lines. A real bitch when it comes to sanding etc. I usually didn't worry about them or just sanded them all off as I was not sure what else to do. Any suggestions would be welcome.

Off to a good start. For seatbelts you could use strips of masking tape or the lead foil that covers the cork on a bottle of wine (good excuse to have a glass or two).

I will have to try the masking tape method as I do not drink stupid meds prevent that.

Now i can see them, maybe something with my connection or browser. Looks great so far.

Thanks. I'm going to try and make some belts this weekend. Hoping to get my primer in today as well. May even hit the model shop and get some more paints.

I've still got one of these (Airfix) in a box somewhere must be 20 odd years old and a B17.

Update. I know it's been a good couple of weeks, but I do have a small update.
I spent most of the weekend last time sanding and masking. I did the initial primer coat.
This weekend I am looking to get the camo on and possibly decals.

I did use Styrlez (sp?) primer for the first time with this. I had to crank up to 50psi and thin it out quite a bit. I recently got a proper hose and maybe I might have an air leak. I will be looking at that this weekend. Hopefully I won't have to thin anymore out and not run so high on the psi in the future.

Building this though has reminded me why I love modeling so much. Two full days of solitude without worrying about anyone getting on me about anything. I love this hobby so much. It's one hobby where what you do is good enough if it makes you happy.

One thing to mention though is I used TET for the first time. I normally use Tenax-7R. The only difference between the two that I can see is that TET comes in a square bottle and has a brush. I will continue using it until it is gone before I make up my mind which to use as my primary go to.
