Lockheed F-80C - from "PACAU" Sqn - Brazilian Air Force - 1/72 - Airfix

Post by AndreFerro »

Hi everyone!
And I keep my duty of building the kits of planes used by FAB (Brazilian Air Force) as much as possible.
This is an old kit (back from the 60ies, I think!) which I ihave bought on e-bay sometime ago.

The kit:
Artbox:

Inside, most of the pieces were out of their sprues:

Instructions (damm old! Like egyptian papirus!):

Decals (damm old as well, but I won´t use them...):

These are the decals I will use! a decal set from FCM, a Brazilian manufacturer! :th:

...which could be used on several versions: (Mexico, Portugal Chile !)

The one I choosed:

Well... Starting over !

First issue: The wingtip tanks used by FAB, was the "Fletcher" ones! And the kit has only the "Lockheed" and "Mizawa" ones...
Image

But.....

A good friend modeller, contacted me and kindly and generously offered a copy of the "Fetcher" tanks in resin:

So.... I started with the tanks !!
After some sanding and filling.... here is one of them (portside one):

But still missing the Starboardside one !

After competed the Stbside tank, a quick dryfit :

And the airbrush started to work!

Yellow green on the wheel-wels, internal landing gear doors and cockpit:

Seat & pilot: DONE !

Front landing gear bay glued, as well as some ballast on the FWD part:

Landing gears: check!

Two halves of the fuselage glued, stabilyzers and wingtip tanks as well!

Pilot installed at his 'office' as well !

Filling the gaps !

Excess puty removed:

First coat aluminium airbrushed :

Some details in red on the wingtip tanks:

Masking for a different tone of aluminium:

A mix of XF-32 (Titanium Silver) with X-19 (Smoke) both Tamiya :

Masks removed:

Some decals which I have decided not to use...

But will airbrush instead:

tip of tanks:

masks off:

Close up and masked for anti glare strip painting in black:

Which was also done, also some preshading:

After a thin coat of aluminium, started decalling:

Finishing decalling, and glued landing gears and bombs:

... and DONE :

And that´s it !

Hope you liked it !!

Nice looking F--80, great result on the old kit. Did you encounter a lot of fit issues?
