1/72 60's Revell Ploikarpov i-16

Post by UKscalemodeller »

This was my first model after rediscovering the hobby. Hand painted, with whatever paints I had (hence not looking very 'real'). I scratch built the cockpit interior and added the antenna wire, apart from that it is OOB.

I was pleased and disappointed with it at the same time. It was a learning experience for sure and hopefully will be the worst looking thing I have ever done.

It'd an oddity of the I-16, the lower half of the gear doors was pulled upwards automatiacaly when the gear was lowered so that it wouldn't dig into the ground. this meant the tyres were 100% covered, unlike the Bf109 where the lower part of the wheel was still visible.

Here's a shot from the front. Oh I also added the retraction cables.

I've built the Eduard 1/48 of this exact plane and that was small. Shudder to think how big the 1/72 version is! Nice way back to the hobby Ian :D
