World War I Buddy Build Entry

History

Following the appearance of the first British tanks on the Western Front, the Allgemeines Kriegsdepartement, 7. Abteilung, Verkehrswesen ("General War Department, 7th Branch, Transportation"),was formed in September 1916.

The project to design and build the first German tank was placed under the direction of Joseph Vollmer, a reserve captain and engineer. It was to have a mass of around 30 tons, be capable of crossing ditches up to 1.5 metres wide, have armament including cannon at the front and rear as well as several machine-guns, and reach a top speed of at least 12 km/h. The running gear was based on the Holt tractor, copied from examples loaned by the Austrian Army. After initial plans were shared with the Army in December 1916, the design was extended to be a universal chassis that could be used as a base for both a tank and unarmoured Überlandwagen ("over-land vehicle") cargo carriers.

The first prototype was completed by Daimler-Motoren-Gesellschaft at Berlin-Marienfelde and tested on 30 April 1917. A wooden mockup of a final version was completed in May 1917 and demonstrated in Mainz with 10 tons of ballast to simulate armour. During final design, the rear-facing cannon was removed and the number of machine-guns was increased to six. The first pre-production A7V was produced in September 1917, followed by the first production model in October 1917. The tanks were given to Assault Tank Units 1 and 2, founded on 20 September 1917, each with five officers and 109 NCOs and soldiers.

awesome build, that kit is freaking fantastic looking, if I didn't have sssooo many kits, I'd get that one, and your really make it look fun. Ugh I just might get it anyway, and have all the kits I don't Finnish buried with me. Do the still make pianos? And does anyone know if the still pack them in wooden boxes? Hahaha.

Lol! Get it anyway! I think there are many good offers now...and... You'll have loads of fun in the afterlife! I guess ancient Egyptians didn't have MENG at their disposal in those vaults, but hey! Times are changing!

Get it indeed, the original price is a bit expensive but you can find it now for about €45
It's a cool kit! I've worked a llitle bit with it and I like it more and more: A7V Hull red + pannelling shades. Next, I'm going to add matt varnish and scratch fluid. This is going to be the base where I'll work with my first airbrushed camo pattern (I'll cross my fingers) I haven't done much, but the kit shows its potential

Australia told France, Britain, and germany, if they didn't give it to them, they wouldn't send Mel Gibson to America, instead they would send him to one of them. A holes, Hahaha. Wonder if they take him back?

But you have to admit Mad Max and The Road Warrior rocked!

I'll admit to being a Mel Gibson fan....he does what he does well

Building Gibson's big horse

Interiors were primed






The vault was sealed






I primed it and... Damn! Plastic could be seen through! I had to remove grills






...and I painted these inside vents. Advice: Paint it first glue it later






After priming the hull, I added panel shadows






I airbrushed it with hull red






...and marked those panels again






I added three thin layers of scratches effects






I airbrushed the hull with Mig 078(WWI German Tanks set)






I added two layers of scratches effects






...and I carefully airbrushed Mig 077 at low pressure






It was followed by Mig 079






Looking good






Scratching time






I used water and different tools






Damn vents! :O Decals are supposed to be under those cables!






Cables were detached and painted with Revell iron along with tracks






I sealed it with matt varnish






These decals are awful! They're too thick






Some work was needed here






I hate these vents






A light dot oil filter was applied






dots were washed with white spirit






More lights were applied on brown patterns






...and shadows were added too on lower areas






Everything was sealed again






Time to rub gun metal pigments






Let's not forget rust effects!






Looking good, but it needs the spark...






A filter, of course... and...






A dark wash!






It's been washed down with white spirit






I love rust streaks






I added grime streaks on the carriage






Tracks were given a track wash patina






More gun metal on those spyholes






and graphitte on handles and hinges






Black pigment was enriched with a bit of motor oil

They were primed with black and grey colours






I used airbrush modulation but I didn't like it. So, I'll add shadow and lights with a brush at a later stage






Grey tones were used on their trousers






A flesh base was painted






I also took care of their equipment






More details... Blue grey on those helmets

Unteroffizier Himmelstoß is a fashion victim






Black lines were drawn with an aquarel pencil











Equipment was given lights, shadows and scratches






Straps were added






The Gift of Life: a filter and a dark wash

Thank you again Richard! I try to help my hand resting my elbow or even my forearm on the bench, it really helps I think that a slight shaking is unavoidable. Nevertheless, those red lines were a hell, the helmet camo was fun though because lines are not straight. It's been 20! days working with them, and that's a long time... so definitely, time an patience are the most important part in this equation.

Mud everywhere


Some styro work

Printing tracks











Two types of soil were mixed






Figures were pinned










Barbed wire; I followed Non-prolific's tutorial





































Wires were painted with rust






I rubbed gun metal pigments






Looking good






Lower parts were airbrushed with dust effects






It was washed down with white spirits






I added pigments on flat surfaces; their presence is due to artillery fire











Dry splashes are prepared with plaster





They have been applied with the help of an airbrush and a brush







Wet splashes






I've also added more mud effects on the terrain






A fine grain will be used on those flat surfaces










Beware with this glue, it will need a matt varnish layer







Dry flowers from my garden











Still water needs many layers and patience






More wet effects
