Hasegawa 1/72nd F-14A Tomcat Aggressor - Finished

So, I admit it. I'm really bad about updating build threads !!!

This one is now completed and in the cabinet. I quite enjoyed this build though I have definitely realized that 1/72nd is way too small for my tired old eyes When I came back to modelling I vowed never to build an all grey aircraft. But, I've been wanting to build a Tomcat. So when I found pictures of the Blue Aggressors based at NAS Fallon, I searched the interweb for some decals. When I managed to find some 'Hi-decal Line' aftermarket it was time to start building. I'm pretty happy with the outcome though I think I may have overdone the weathering.
Anyway, enough waffle. Here she is.

So having now completed the F-16 SIG. It's time to hit the stash. I got this model for christmas and as it's 1/72nd I've resisted the urge to touch it till my newly rediscovered modeling skills were a little more advanced. The F-16 made me do some research into 'Aggressor' schemes and when I found the Hi-Decal Line decals for an NSAWC Aggressor Tomcat the decision was pretty simple. Hope my eyes are up to the challenge of the smaller scale, I guess only time will tell.

Enough talk - lets build............

Nice bit of PE. Looks pretty thick though!



Surface detail looks pretty good



More flash than I was expecting on a nearly $50 kit though

I have a F-14A Academy (1/72) and the firm intention to built same on Agressor Scheme !

I've only done one Hasegawa (well, four but egg planes don't really count) and though it didn't have a lot of flash, in the spots where it did it was a bit excessive. Maybe they use their die molds until they get more than a little warped

Edit to add: it was mostly around the exhaust pieces for me as well.

So Ive made a little progress over the past week.
As I suspected, this is the first 1/72nd model I've made in over 30 years and it will also be the last. It's just too small for my old eyes to allow me too add the amount of detail that I would like, so it's back to 1/48th as soon as this is done. (Probably the exact same aircraft in the bigger scale).
The fit in places is horrible. Where the nose and tail sections join the main fuselage there seem to be big fit issues, leaving a huge 'step' between components. I'm undecided what to do with these, but I'll probably just leave them :0(

Oh well, modelling is all about the challenge right?.................
