Here is my entry for shiny things.

I bought this decades ago when I was reading books like "The Right Stuff" and "Yeager" and started collecting the planes mentioned in them. And, like so many of the kits I bought (an still buy), never built it. It's about time.

I think some of the older kits still out shine more modern kits.That looks like a gem.I can not wait to see that built.

I just finished mowing the front yard so my reward is finally posting an official build report! It's about time!

How about that "Thunder Screech"! Test plane for a supersonic prop. The odd one in the lower left is a decoy F-84 dressed as an F-102.


This German one is pretty funky too!

I've taken to writing my WIPs and longer picture intensive posts in Notepad so I can save as I go. Once you lose a post you've worked on for half an hour to the PC monster you get cautious...

When I'm done, CTRL-A, CTRL-C, CTRL-V. Submit.

I did that when I was about 3/4 done! I started to think it was about time for a crash and I better do something about it! Didn't have one though and things cleared up after a while. Whew!

Very nice old Monogram kit raised panel lines sure hope the flow marks from the injection process on the wings won't cause you any trouble when doing the NMF on this little beauty.

Looking forward to seeing this build. When I was younger I always thought Monogram aircraft kits was a big must have but alas pocket money never got past Airfix or Matchbox. Good pictures on the background of the F84.

I'm not sure. I think I bought it around the publication date (1985) so that means probably Craftec Hobbies, https://www.facebook.com/plastickits/, down in Connecticut. They stock a good selection of books and magazines. I have another for the X-15 and some called "In Detail and Scale" for several other kits. Sometimes being a massive procrastinator pays off. It died here at work as it often does on a hot, sunny, Saturday afternoon, and I'm bored to death. But wait! I have a mess of photos already uploaded to PhotoBucket that I never got around to posting here! I'll just update my build now and save time at home for building. Smart.

The instructions call for medium green in the wheel bays. So that's what I did. Looking at my reference book (after the fact, naturally) I see that they look like painted silver not green. Luckily an easy fix!

Wheel wells and cockpit area primed.



Some metal work on the inside using Model Master Metalizer.

A bit of a wing warp problem. Using a metal ruler to brace it while it dries.



Nose gear well / intake splitter. Love that seam on the inside!

Control panel and cockpit / seat just about done! Since I took these I've finished the seat painting.

Not a prayer. The mojo has left the building. As soon as we started getting busy at work (wedding and graduation season) and the temperature went up the mojo took a powder and left me with all kinds of stuff started. Sigh.

It's obvious that I will not be finishing this build. Shortly after starting, my mojo left the building. I thought it was just because I had a few rough times with kits: I didn't finish the Homeland build; the F-16 had difficult decals (but I finished on time!); Su-27 had great decals, but for a different kit, and I didn't finish that one.
It seems that my mojo did more than leave the building - it went on vacation without me! So, the best thing I can do is take a break and try to reset my enthusiasm for the next build. I really wanted to finish this kit, but it just won't be right now.

That's cool mate. I go through periods like that. Best just to down tools and wait for the inspiration to come back. I don't do much in the summer (he said laughingly at this summer so far) as I can't abide being in when the sun is shining.
