This was Johnnie's second Mk IX as a WingCo, MK392. He took over 144 Wing again in March 1944, prepared it for D-Day and took it across the channel on June Flying Ground support missions. In Sept 144 Wing was disbanded and he took over 127 Wing till he became Group Captain in charge of 125 Wing in March 1945. MK392 was his mount for those 12 months with 144/127 wing, in which he shot down 12 aircraft of his final total of 38.

The Eduard kit is a dream to assemble. In my mind it is superior to the Tamiya Spitfires (other Marks). It just falls together.
Victory Production Aces of the Empire Decals. Tamiya paints - Tamiya XF-81, 82, 83.
I chose to model MK392 between July 25 and Jan 3 1945. Here is how and why...
The full invasion stripes were painted top and bottom wing and around the fuselage on June 4/5 1944, just prior to the invasion.
On July 25, 1944 the directive was to remove the stripes from the upper wings and upper fuselage.
Finally on Jan 3, 1945, all invasion strips, plus the Sky band ahead of the tailplanes were removed. At the same time the spinner was to be painted black.

Here are some finished shots, and a picture of its older brother EN398 from Johnnie's previous tour on Operations in 1943, which I modeled last year..
