1/72 I-15 bis Winterwonderland (ICM)

my 4th entry ...

as the SiG only finish on the 30th April , and yesterday I check this little fellow in my LHS , decided to give it a try ! expect a very quick build , sort of 48 Hour crazy build

THe kit is the ICM 1/72 I-15 Bis Biplane fighter (winter version ) , never done any plane of this brand ...will give a go in a winter wash with the new Ultimate wash and make a small diorama for it !

What you get ? One sprue , and a very well bagged Clear part





One decal tiny sheet , and some instructions :



5 steps t do , some nasty instructions , but hey this is to be fun and myself must give up my Tamiya addition



two color schemes (all in grey and white , but they are colored , one is all white , but decided to do the top one and make a winter wash on it :



Soft Plastic ...some detail but will be a very tinny little plane





Just to have an idea on how long will be the fuselage !



Start on the cockpit



Painted the interior of the fuselages



Cockpit instruments , MG's and cockpit tubes ..a lot of detail with no idea where all will fit



Example , the MG's ...are thy on the bottom of the cockpit or attached to the instriments panel ?



well maybe the first mistake , but decided to place them on top of the instrument panel ...like the Japanese Zero's or a WWI plane



Another nightmare to place all inside the ''Studio'', and it has no kitchen in it , no space ...



get it and glued both halves , the fit is ....welll...ok atending that you must glue the halves with no support on either side , The new Tamiya Extra tHin Quick Dry give a big help !





So working on this this afternoon and the weekend , but so far what I have is this ...must be crazy to do a kit like this , I hardly can see the 1/35 scale , I must get an Microscope to my bench

One more update on this 'enourmous' build

The plane was easy to build ...well I really hate Biplanes and to fix the supports to the upper wing ...and this littel fellow has no support in nothing , but in the end ...ok , I think !



Still do not know for what I have the work to paint the engine parts , and so much doubts on the Machine guns position ...you can't see nothing as all was closed in the fuselage of Doom

BEhind you can see two little submarines , actually they are the skis

AS I'm a guy that like to try new stuff and decided to get rid of the good habit that is to do Tamiya kits and using their paints , decided to use ...crypes....Vallejo Paints



After a Good Priming using some Vallejo Russian Green Primer ...yes I took the risk this time ...



DEcided to leave the primer itself , and painted the underface in the Blue Sky





Nice result ...but not convinced with the Vallejo Paints ...



Some more steps going to the finish line ...add the propeller , skis ...





exhausts were painted Red Brown ...

AS I painted free hand some blue where should be green ...but will try to corret with the winter wash

Some chiping using aluminium and a sponge , and Vallejo paints , actually was only the primer will look also like the Russian paint in WWII it get weathered soon ...or maybe my Big fingers and hurry to finish this build !

DEcalling Time !



the decals were ok , but they rip off a little that patriotic phrase on the side , split in three pieces...in the end I win the battle , with some casualties , but was won !



Upside down photo , the first one ...



Now to prepare the base for the diorama , some trees from ModelSCene , Tamiya Texture paint snow , some snow in a pot from Reality in sclae, some Pine forest scatter from Reality in scale ...let's see what I can do on this one :



Let's give the plane a wash



oh my ...what I've done !!!



I finished using some snow from Tamiya weathering master , in complement of the Ultimate wash , and I like the end result !



And here it is ready to go to the diorama !





Painted the base with Vallejo Black Primer , good to waste in this kind of stuff



DAS Plaster on top



Painted with vallejo Russian Green so after I can start working on the textures and surface .



There is all for now ! Hope that you like ....must do the rigging on the plane ...doesn't feel with too much will to do that ....

Last update before the final reveal ...

Finishing the base :

Some white glue to spread the scatter





Added the snow



And one point , I didn't make the rigging in the plane ...I didn't feel to do it , I started doing it with some Ushi Rig , but I just didn't do it , I was stressing doing that ...maybe later I will do it with some streched sprue as could be the better way to do it :
