This is my Great Wall Hobby Focke Wulf 189a in 1/48.

A great kit but ruined by it's awful paint mask's.

Although it came with ski's the kit did not have any winter camo schemes so I went for a crudely brushed on and almost worn away white wash.

Nicely done. What was wrong with the masks? Transparencies look OK to me.

Some did not fit, some were labelled wrongly, some just did not exist! All of them were so sticky that they had to be picked of with a dental pick and the effort required to remove them actually shook loose some of the interior detail. And they left such a mess on the glass that they all had to be cleaned up with a cotton bud and adhesive remover.

Oh boy, I had a set of Montex masks like that once. Put me off using them again. I hate it when masks are so sticky that you finish up pushing a transparency loose trying to get it off.

That's one very cool looking aircraft and that whitewash suits it well with the ski-landing gear. That was a lot of canopy masking so it's a shame they were buggers to remove. Still, you've done a fine job
